Deep Sea Fish Loves You Forever by agersant

[raw]
made by agersant for LD24 (COMPO)
"Deep Sea Fish Loves You Forever" is an underwater exploration game in which you must uncover and analyze oceanic wildlife.
There is a total of 5 species to uncover and the best ranking you can get is S. Good luck!

- If you are having trouble finding your first few fishes, try moving a less frantically and let them come to you =)
- If you have performance issue, you might want to try using Firefox rather than Chrome to play the game, I know it has been helpful to some people.

Nice game, nice mood, but very short

Very cool, love the discovery forced by the sonar mechanic, would be cool to explore more complex environments using a similar system. I found it a little tedious scanning each fish, making the fish faster to scan but having a more complicated environment could keep the challenge but reduce the frustration of waiting so long for each fish to scan.

Maybe you have to scan some fish that could also eat/damage you?

So awesome. The only way it could be better is with more fish, but it's already freakin' amazing. Great job.

@turnip > If the loading bar was still on screen it means it was still loading. Some files are bigger than others so the last bit may take a while. If you were on the title screen you just have to click it.

@camdensegal > I was considering adding an electric eel that would kill you if you touch it but I didn't want to make the game confusing by blending ennemies and objectives. I like the idea of different environments, underwater caves could be fun. Thanks for your input.

I love the idea, and the graphics and sounds are stunning! The gameplay is way to short and a bit to slow though. Overall, a great game, looking forward to see more of that.

Great atmosphere, especially with the superb music and graphics. I spent ages and only found 2 fish - clown and starfish. All I could find from then on was bombs and more starfish, even when travelling to the bottom, before I got destroyed by a bomb. Overall a great game.

Awesome Game. Love almost everything apart from that it doesn't convey the theme well.

Music and sound was incredible, great compliment to the art style.

I don't see too much how the competitions theme fits massively.

Overall, the game was great and very much an enjoyable experience.

Nice graphics and music. Positive game overall. You designed it thinking about phones, right? :)

This would make an excellent educational game! Liked it very much. I reached the bottom and had still 1 species left I think, but it was a nice ride to the bottom. Enjoyed it! Well done.

At first I thought I was invinvible and tried to use the hazards at my advantage. Bad idea.
This is a very good and relaxing game. I hopê I'll eventually find the last species (but I'm too afraid of the bottom...)

Pretty cool game, I really liked the style of graphics you chose, the logo for Aquamarine Labs is a classic.

Excellent little game! Very polished and well thoughtout visuals. I was very easy to figure out what to do.
Sound is also supporting the action perfectly.

Don't know how extensive an idea like this can be developed, but the base available here sure is nice :)

Good job.

What a great game! I love the simple and effective graphics. I have to agree with some other comments that it could use some tuning here or there, and some more interesting environments. But still, the "depth" feeling was quite good (the shafts of light really helped), and the graphic design is solid.

You get bonus points for the sonar waves being actual sprites! You could use this game as a demonstration of the Doppler effect.

... and on the other hand the longitude indication seems a bit off. It should be ', not " (minutes come after degrees, and only then seconds). Also it seems to behave correctly near the starting location, but I went far west, and the minutes tick UPWARDS while the degrees tick DOWNWARDS.... but these are just nitpicks =)

Great game and atypical interpretation of the theme.
Movements are a real nuisance for the player but well aware of the effect of water on the hydrosphere.
Good graphics and amazing music ! I'm waiting the post-mortem on lesforges.org ! ;)

Very nice - great looking, very complete, awesome soundtrack. The gameplay was a little mysterious; I discovered my first species without feeling like I was doing anything - I just jetted around scanning, occasionally being attacked, trying to move to what I'd scanned, but that seemed to have no bearing on finding the species. I would have liked some clearer feedback on what I was supposed to do and when I was doing it right. Being told I needed to hold down the spacebar instead of just pressing it would have helped a lot. It looks great - nice work.

Great music. Great concept. Not sure about the evolution tie-in? Also, you're the clownfish, jerk. Good work!

I like the game mechanic. Using the same energy for movement and vision leads to some interesting choices when there are mines in play. I found four species before I gave up.

Really nice, especially the mood. I had serious performance issues in Chrome on my laptop but couldn't even get the game to load in Firefox. I might try again when I'm back on my desktop PC.

The game is very well realized from graphical and audio point of views. It was quiet relaxing and thrilling at the time to follow fishes to scan them.

Quite a neat game :)

Would have love :
- more species to discover
- that discovered species are always displayed in the sea, so you it get more and more lively
- a better link to the theme :)

Anyway this is quite good :)

Feels very complete. Everything fits - the music, the graphics, overall mood - and that's quite a feat to achieve during the compo. Theme is a little stretched, but the gameplay is pretty solid and leaves the player wanting more, which is a good thing. Great entry!

I could only play the game with Firefox, Chrome was lagging like hell. Is there a special reason for this, like haxe? The game itself is great in every way!

Came here because of your Post-Mortem (and the interessting pictures in it :D) and was not disappointed.

Great Game, nice graphics, and good music.
The gameplay is really intuitive and easy.

Like you said, the game is not perfectly fitting to the theme, but thats not so bad :)

All in all, very great game.
Good job!
