Targeted Evolution by johnfn
Hi! This is a silly game involving combining evolution cards and giving your character special abilities. Your goal: Combine all the elemental cards together! What kind of powers could that give you?
I hope you enjoy!
There also might be an easter egg hidden somewhere. :)

Right away I laughed on the first lines of dialog (won't spoil for others). Great humor :)
Great level design, awesome job on the little art! The feeling of the controls is just great, they're very responsive, fast and smooth.
Damn I just got in a part where I got the second card but I just can't equip it, is that supposed to happen? :( Couldn't find out what to do. Anyways, I really loved the game :) Great Job!
The card selection interface is hard to use though, the currently selected card is not really obvious... Also, support for multiple controls is nice when using letters such as Z/X, for foreign keyboards ;)
Some things I noticed while playing: The sound effect for collision is really loud, had to turn down my headphones so my eardrums wouldn't pop. The movement is a bit slippery and physics feel wonky... boxes slide around when I'm standing on top of them. Also, the evolution card selection screen is really difficult to use. I usually have no idea which one I have highlighted and only manage to pick the card I want through blind trial and error.
Really though I agree with all of your criticisms. I definitely messed up the evolution selection screen. Most of the other stuff you guys are mentioning are things I wanted to fix but simply ran out of time. Such is Ludum Dare. :)
-I liked the smooth scrolling between, the screens, the space background, pixel artwork
-liked evolving the blocks, the card system was a little confusing - was hard to see what card was selected, etc
-Some of the "dialog" was pretty funny when talking to the wizard.
-Sound was a little obnoxious
Also @deepnight, that was something I did not consider. I will definitely keep that in mind in the future. Thanks.
Nice job!
I liked how the Professor mentioned keys and the guy didn't know what he was saying. That was hilarious. Great game, 5 for humor.
By the way, I noticed you gave me a "Good Samaritan" award. What was that meant for? :)
The dialogue was quirky and felt like a personification of the internet, it made me laugh in places. I especially liked the little poker face on the idiot protagonist's dialogue avatar:

There were a few minor bugs in a couple of places but nothing that really spoilt the game. I did find the card selection menu incredibly annoying, and found myself flicking through it confused to what was selected or not, but it made a bit more sense once I had 3 cards. The walkthrough came in useful when I got distracted at one point and ended up confused to what I was supposed to be doing.
Nice one @johnfn.
Funny dialogues.
I'm also exceedingly happy that some of you guys got to the easter egg. I wasn't sure if anyone would get it!
Thanks for the comments, everyone.
A few minor criticisms: the card-choosing interface was a bit awkward; I got stuck both times when I needed to talk to the professor to progress, because I was used to using the 'x' key with him by then; and the sound effect when you land after a jump was a bit annoying. Those are all pretty minor though - and other those, you nailed it!
It was fun though, and creative. Card selection was a little difficult at times.
