The Chamber by yajtheman

Well this didn't exactly get done, but I suppose that's what I get for trying to make my second game ever during Ludum Dare... The game seemed to follow the theme a bit more when I considered it... Oh well enough apologies. It is a puzzle game with ( what I hope is ) an interesting back story. Not that the story got finished. It was worth a shot and I learned a good deal, such as: Next time the game is going to be randomly generated so I don't have to worry about making levels. Hope you enjoy whats there!

Oh and by the way, if anyone read my post during the comp I didn't actually have a partner. Turned out he couldn't do it. So since I won't be able to work on it tomorrow anyway I may as well submit it now.

P.S. Did you notice the spaces around the parenthesis up there? I guess I've been coding too long.

NOTE: The web link is a zip download. I don't have anywhere to host the game, but it is in HTML5/JavaScript so you can just open it in Chrome, Firefox, or Opera (Not Safari). I wouldn't recommend Opera though, because it doesn't let you hold down an arrow key to move faster.

I think with a bit more work this could be a fun premise for a game. I enjoyed the atmosphere you started to create with the dialog, but wished it was pushed a little further.

The movement could have been, maybe, a little faster -- I felt like I was moving for most of the game.

Overall, good job. Nice animation on the particles, and I think the combination of growing/shrinking + buttons/doors could go a long way.

Very interesting idea... i couldn't pass the purple box level, though

Is the "web" version supposed to work? I get a ".zip" to download instead of a web page.

Hey, not bad mechanics/ideas! Of course the pity is that the game ends before they're used in really interesting ways. D:

@Panda No, the Web version isn't actually hosted. The Windows version had a little required * by it when I submitted the game, so I thought it was required. But I didn't want people on Mac or Linux to not try it so I put the same link under Web. I'll look and see if there is a better way to post it. @ConflictiveLabs I'm not sure which level you mean since I made the color of the boxes random, is it the level with two buttons or one?

Fun concept, but the game ended before it got interesting.

An interesting start; I liked the personality of the guiding textbot or whatever it was. The puzzles weren't too intricate yet, but with more time you might be able to do that. I liked the sounds and the clean appearance.

Good start to the game. Reminds me of some of the puzzle mechanics from the last LD, actually ;) Would like to see it developed more. Nice particle effects!

Interesting idea. The movement and collision detection were a little weird, though.

I hoped the dialogue continued and actually did something in the game.

@Gidaio Yes, the idea was that you move based on the size of you box (the motion is actually calculated like this: x = x + person.width) So if the next movement takes you into a wall then you can't move there. I was also thinking about some kind of alignment wall that when you collide with it, it lines you up with the wall rather then just not letting you move there like the other walls do.

Damn, it finished just as it was getting good! ;)

I liked the text narration - it set a good tone.

I'd have liked to see a bit more done with the puzzles.

Nice start, you actually had me disappointed when it ended. It was just starting to get interesting!

With some more levels and smoothed out movement this has some real potential.
