Galagapos by brackeen

[raw]
made by brackeen for LD24 (COMPO)
Mutate some aliens and watch them fight.

The appearance of the aliens affect their speed, firepower, etc. (white aliens are fast, red are powerful, large aliens are slower, etc.).

In fight mode, click the screen to make it go faster.

Each level, the spaceship becomes more difficult. The game ends if the spaceship destroys all the aliens. There is no ending, you just see how many levels you can get to. I've been able to get to level 9.

The mutations are random, and there are virtually endless alien appearances. Fight mode is completely deterministic, though it may vary if the frame rate is low.

It's a nice concept, although having to start over from level one after losing kinda sucks, especially since there's no enough information about what each shape or color does, and sometimes you're simply trying a random one to see if it works.

Other than that, the concept is nice and it's fun to play with the ships and look for a solid combination. (:

I like your game name =) Perhaps a chart somewhere in game to indicate what shape and color does. Maybe don't give everything away, but it'd be nice to have some reference point to get started

I wasn't sure on the concept here. I don't think I was controlling the ship.

Very interesting concept, but the experience is just a little too passive, especially since your success or failure in previous waves doesn't seem to effect what you can do on your current one at all.

I love the concept! It's a shame there's no indication to what the mutations do.

It's a cool idea, but the payoff isn't so great. In the end it just kind of seems random.

The game could be more interesting strategically if a. you knew what colors meant beyond the few examples you gave and b. the enemy (in this case the ship) had different characteristics per level so the goal would be to try and counter that specific ship type.

Quite original concept! Took me a while to realize my goal was not to control the ship, but instead just evolve the aliens.

I liked the concept. Its rather slow paced. It would be nice to have more info about the colors and shapes. I ended up by random clicking in the aliens hit go.
