Planets by bodsey

[raw]
made by bodsey for LD24 (COMPO)
Hi there,
This is my first time in this contest. Learned a lot of things, made a few mistakes also.
This game is about planets : your goal is to make them evolve into livable worlds by throwing asteroids at them.
It's played with arrows and space button (instructions in game). Planets score points when they reach outer limits.
Enjoy !

Really nice presentation and artstyle, I really liked how you had to do some planning in order to get the highest score.

I had some problems with the launch strength indicator though, it was pretty hard to tell how charged it was since it's so blurry. Also the gravity felt a bit too strong compared to the most charged shot (Maybe I was doing something wrong :P).

I really like the concept and I felt the artwork and sound were well done. The gameplay, though, is lacking. I kept firing my little pellets at bigger planets expecting something to happen but finding nothing did. At the same time, when I tried to aim at smaller asteroids the bigger planets would suck up my pellets! Overall, I wasn't sure if I was making progress or not... I would keep working on the planet building experience and try to give the player more to think about -- ideally forcing him to make trade offs as he goes.

Great game, great idea, great graphics. But a bit hard to understand the mechanics and the gravity thing at first.

Not sure I completely understood how it worked. Sometimes I could shoot asteroids really fast and other times not at all? Is it possible to make a planet completely full of water? They seemed to get stuck at a certain stage for me.

My score was 265

At first I was thinking: Oh, yet another "evolve a planet" game.

But your art style is really very, very nice. I adore the look of your game, and the sound is nice too. Great aesthetic.

I feel that the gameplay is a little slow/off. The controls and the pacing could use some adjustment -- which would make this game absolutely...stellar.

Nice work! Very similar to my game only better, which makes me very jealous. Would have liked to have some indicator of when a blue asteroid is coming up, I just wound up shooting at the big rocks constantly until one came around.

Good game, it's kind of like a reverse asteroids or something rather than breaking them down you're building them up. Works well with the simple control system and slick presentation.

I like the concept - kind of like Asteroids, but in reverse. Graphics were really good too. It felt like 3 minutes per game was a bit too long, because there wasn't really enough variation in the gameplay to keep it going. It's definitely got the makings of a good game though & I'd be interested to see a post-comp version which adds a bit more to it.
