Raiders of the Ancient Technology by runvs

[raw]
made by runvs for LD36 (JAM)
In Raiders of the Ancient Technology, you're exploring the temple of Angkor Wat. You have to find 4 chests with relics of ancient technology. But be aware. It won't be easy! A lot of dangerous warriors from an old tribe are there to protect their treasures.

The theme of Ludum Dare 36 was "Ancient Technology". We were a team of two coders and one for graphics. The game was written in Haxe using HaxeFlixel and offers keyboard or game pad controls (see below). Sounds have been created using SFXR, the tile set and the animations created with aseprite.

The levels were created using Tiled. The world itself is created procedurally by patching different level segments together in an top-down approach.
Every time you start the game, the levels will be different. Also the items are created procedurally by using a list of affixes in combination with item names. This allows an easy generation of different gameplay experiences.

Everything except for the font and the music was created by our team within the time of the jam.

Controls (keyboard):
Move - Arrows
Attack/Interact - X
Dash - C
Inventory - F

Controls (XBox360 game pad):
Move - Left Thumb
Attack/Interact - A
Dash - X
Inventory - Y

Really good game! Gameplay works fine and there's quite a lot of content!
I could'nt finish it, though, I kept getting random crashes, specially when talking to the item vendor...

nice little game :) one problem I did encounter was that the interaction windows (like the heal) got stuck taking up the whole screen without possbility to close them :(

Great game! I really liked the generation and art. I also liked the combat, it was simple yet challenging. I did notice a bugs. There was a time where an enemy went through the wall and wandered out into the void. I also noticed that the audio for attacking would sometimes stop playing until I died. I also got a few crashes.

Really solid, challenging game! I included it in my compilation video series of Ludum Dare 36, if you’d like to take a look :) https://youtu.be/lcfUdhXZ_XQ

Art is good, Different tiles for the floor go a long way to break up the blocks.

I really like the way that enemies attack. My foo strategy was two hits then run back repeat. it makes single enemies not hard to deal with, but 3 enemies was a lot harder than 3 times.

the timer system on the shop is pretty cool (maybe stealing that idea at some point xP ) the items seem a lot more powerful than your character, but its ok because you lose them if you die.

Sadly I didn't play it long enough to get any of the artifacts. I got tired of the same type of enemy, and the time it took to take them out. Obv the generated rooms are very meandery, but it seems like there is too much branching, too much space for how hard it is to move through space.

Overall its great! If you update it with more content (Enemies/Weapons) i would love to play it again. Thanks!

Really nice work, reminds me of my entry! I really like difficult games but this one starts off as a bit too difficult imo.

Nice graphics and gameplay. Having a marge map, items to found and to buy make the game longer. That is a nice thing to create this mood of adventure.

Good job.
