Panzerantix by CptDustmite

[raw]
made by CptDustmite for LD35 (COMPO)
Panzerantix is a (somewhat) turn-based puzzle-combat game, where you must configure your tank correctly to make your way through the map safely.

I would count this as my most successful Ludum Dare entry so far, as it actually has a reasonable amount of gameplay compared to my other ones! It strayed a bit from my original idea but I think it still turned out alright. Lots of fun to make as well, really enjoyed it and I hope you do too :)

Thank you for playing and rating!

Awesome game and cool art style. I would speed up the time a little it takes to do a turn - other dan that GREAT JOB!

Really awesome game. Well done! Agreed with speeding up the turn animation.

Awesome. Love the look of it. Colour palette is great. Reminds me of Aliceffekt's colour palette.

Managed to complete it. Only came across one bug (on level 5 or 6 my turret and mine sweeper didn't show up on the tank). Otherwise smooth from start to finish.

My only suggestions: Felt the comedic tone of the writing didn't suit the rest of the tone of the game. A more serious sci-fi tone would be good. A 2x speed option (or just speeding up the turns by default). And an awesome soundtrack of course (not expected within jam time limits).

Overall I reckon it has great potential to be a full game, and would work well on mobile/touch.

Cool game, I liked the mechanic of switching your equipment from different slots while you went through the leve, made it really tensel. I came across one glitch where I was swapping my shields and it was in the slot but didn't show up on the tank and I got blown up. Fun game, nicely done.

I like it, could do with a button to speed up the game though

Beautiful graphics (particularly liking the color palette), good sound, excellent concept and execution.

Could definitely do with being a bit faster, though.

This is leaderboard material. It has a ton of potential, I agree with those who suggest you keep working on it. I would buy a full game like this.

Just excellent work. Thanks for sharing it :)

Nice little puzzle game, loved the colour palette, like many other commenters, have said. But, like many of these people, it could have been a touch faster for the travel time between the tiles.

Great work!

OMG a Firefly fan! Can't handle the references. Too.. Much.. Nostalgia! Can't believe anyone haven't made a comment on that yet..

This game is AMAZING! So simple yet so complex..
The only problem I have is the pace. A speed up button would really do the trick, or did I miss it?

I have played 4 levels now, but I'm actually gonna quit and save it for later. Gonna update my rating if I find it more clever than it is up until this point.

Nice game, a speed x2 button would be great, as some rounds can get really boring, but the idea is great, and the sounds are good to

Great game! The moving sound sounds amazing, but the lasers are a bit repetitive. I recommend adding multiple sounds or someone changing the sound (edit the pitch or something) for each shot. Also, level 7 is out of place lol. Seems like it should be swapped with one of the first levels...

I like the puzzle element here. Setting up the tank to solve each level is really fun. But the speed is agonizingly slow (I know, everyone has said it already). Speeding it up will make it so much more enjoyable!

I have a bit of hard time seeing how it fits the time, and the pacing should be a accelerated or given the option to manually accelerate.
But the game has nice art and solid gameplay. I quite like the idea, and the fact that it mixes puzzle and combat. Also, the game looks well polished. Great job!

Thanks everyone for your feedback and playthrough of the game so far, it pleases me that so many found it enjoyable!

Addressing some specific comments:
- The speed! Yes! I was actually thinking this myself when testing but pushed it to the back of my mind while I was getting things working and forgot about it. Unfortunately didn't have anyone available to play-test the game so it was left in the final build. It's so easy for me to change, too - but I'll leave the game as-is to be fair. In the updated version (see below) I wouldn't have a speed up button, probably just have the live action done at a faster pace automatically, to be more exciting.
- Comedic tone - yes I see what you mean, but I do think that in this compo at least it added a bit more to the game, whereas a standard tone of language would have just been brushed over by most. I like to add a bit of personality into the games I make but perhaps there's a way to make it fit better with the gameplay.
- SO happy someone noticed the Firefly references! My favourite show :) High five! There are one or two other random references in there too.
- Teh bugs - oh noes. Yeppp didn't have any time for QA unfortunately haha but I'm glad the bugs are minimal so far.
- Level design - yeah I got to the point where I was tired and just wanted to go home (also why the very last one was a little trick one), so the levels may be a bit dodgy and in a weird order in terms of difficulty. Would definitely like to improve the level designs.

As for continuation, yes I definitely want to continue working on this one, I'll make a post about it soon!

Thanks again :)

Hi, nice game ! We're realizing a video with several games of the Ludum Dare #35.
Can you add your game on indiexpo.net ? (it's free)
So we can include also your game in the video ;)

Hey there!

Cool game. Polished, great dialog, interesting mechanics!

The only problem I found was the already-mentioned "It is so slooow".
But it is one easy fix :)

Congratulations for that!

Really great concept. a "fast forward" button could be great but awesome graphics. Just what it needs to understand and the simples graphism are just what was needed and they are great. Good job!!

This is awesome!! The turn *could* go a little faster, but that's my only complaint. Puzzles were done well. I like the visual style, the audio works well. The writing made me laugh, and overall I just really love this. PLEASE expand on this.

Nice game, I like the art style and the idea, it has potential.
Agree with the comments above, it could be faster. Also, I personally don't like reading too much text when playing games, you could teach and have the same effect on the player without all this text imo.
Would like to see how this game will progress :)

This reminds me of a reverse Lightbot Hour. Really well done! It's hard to believe you did this in just 48 hours! Could use a little music, but overall it's incredible! Great job!

I liked the graphics and the fact that everything you set up is displayed on your tank.
I didn't quite like the idea of mines, which make it a guessing game. I don't think you'd lose much if you made them visible.
The gameplay is pretty fun though. I enjoy the fact that precise calculations are not required, as you can complete the game via trial-and-error if you prefer doing so.
