Exocolony by Tange

[raw]
made by Tange for LD27 (JAM)
Colonize the galaxy by locating and crash-landing on other planets. It's super simple, somewhat fun, and not at all entirely unlike anything resembling my last game.

You only get 10 seconds of fuel and you will need every drop of it to reach distant stars. You must land on an empty planet 3 times before you can re-spawn there. Enemy planets will need to be cleared off first. The game will save locally so don't assume you have to beat the whole thing in one session. Note that nothing special happens when you colonize all 44 planets. Just be proud.

This game was written in JavaScript using HTML5 and runs in most modern browsers, however Chrome gets the best FPS. Hopefully the sound works for you. I composed the song in 10 minutes using Frooty Loops. It's my best one yet. I hope you get sick of it.

Pro-Tip: When making the long journey to another star system it helps to turn around just before you arrive so you can slow down and make course corrections. Don't forget to make use of the large map by holding TAB and zoom in and out with your mouse wheel.

I really liked the idea. "Gravity" would also make for a great LD theme :)

I can't play. For any reason, the direction is moving so fast that I can't even go in a straight direction.

What a nice and relaxing game.
Shooting off from system to system was highly enjoyable, and became even more enjoyable when I realized that there was a map.
Fun stuff, I've always wanted to make a game about soaring into the black with great abandon, but I think you've outdone what I could.

Neat idea, I especially like that you can "own" a planet if you discover/crash into it. The sense of exploration was the best part. However the ten seconds limit hurt the experience.

Clean mechanic. Relatively clear objectives. Maybe it was just me, but I wasn't sure how to turn off the jet engine.

Otherwise, great game! Fit the theme and was fun!

Just rocket flights from planet to planet for a long time is not enough to keep player's attention. Good concept, bad polishing. It could be more fun, if there was more options, like, building ships, upgrading planets, or meeting another races.

Interesting little take on a colony game. It would be cool if you could do multiplayer and "battle" other player(s) for the universe...

Audio- I didn't hear anything.

I really like the idea, but I didn't manage to land rocked on another planet, no matter how I tried.

I really liked it. It's a nice idea with a lot of potential. In its current state it gets a bit same-y after a while, but it's still one of the better games I have tried so far. Great work!

I love the idea. If you develop this further, you could have something really remarkable!

Very good gravity game, I like it!
Would be great if that "10 second fuel" could be paused, I only want to use fuel when I press UP, not having it always started.
Based on that concept a "moon landing" game could have been interesting.

This is a really solid idea. I love the fact that you can slingshot using gravity wells :) Unfortunately I found it a bit too hard to control and thought the gravity was a bit punishing in places. I feel like this would be a pretty relaxing game if it didn't have the restriction of the 10 second theme. Also, is that an Australian flag I spot? :D

Reminds me of Starflight, it's great!
I like the concept very much, although I do believe it would be improved if you could stop burning fuel and use momentum to get to planets.

Good idea gre, I agree. That would enhace the game.

Interesting and fun game concept. I like the idea very much. This could be a great multiplayer game or you could add some computer controlled opponents. Maybe it's possible to earn money for conquering planets. The money could then be used for equipment, maybe weapons or mines, to hinder the opponents conquering efforts.
