ShapeGrid by matiasbontempo

[raw]
made by matiasbontempo for LD35 (COMPO)
Create your path through a world of shapes and colors. But be careful, you can only walk on tiles that share at least one of those two properties with you.

This is my first Compo! So I'd love to hear some feedback.
Thanks for playing!

PS. My highscore so far is 223! Can you beat the creator?
PS2. I finally had the chance to fix those game breaking bugs! :D

Very nice, however my game ended up crashing due to an unset value error or something like that, the error message was not helpful. Very nice.

Simple and fun. Basic gameplay, but still tough to get a high score. As XAND noted below, I managed to crash the Windows version several times by pressing keys on the title screen. Clicking the shape to start the game seemed to work more reliably.

I love this neat and fresh idea. One thing to make it better is giving out an extra chance rather than a sudden death.

Nice to see someone else in game maker! :D

This is fantastic.

Noticed a bug, though. It didn't detect a lose case when I was against the level edge.

I played it few times. Nice idea! great implementation of theme. I wish there was some music and sound effects though to make it more fun. Nice visuals love it! after the few times I played though, i got this error: http://imgur.com/NejD9ay :( it's either my computer fault to sandboxing it or it's in the game, dunno. I hope this helps!

Great concept, great graphics! Felt very polished, like a premium mobile app minus the audio. I think you could make an awesome finished product out of this, go for it!

Awesome graphic! Very polished and the overall appearance is really pretty. The gameplay is great but maybe a little too easy to avoid being stucked (maybe it get really harder after a few time

Hey everyone! Thanks for your comments! They are really inspiring. I am aware about those bugs and I'll try to fix them as soon as possible. You could download the game to your phone and the update should be there soon! Also, I'm planning on adding more modes or having some variants.
Cheers!

Very nice. I do feel it's a little too reliant on random chance, but I love the concept and the amount of effort put into the graphics.

A lot of fun! I enjoyed the game very much, I would love to see some sort of level completion in there as well as some more levels. I think the idea is original and I did play it for at least 15 min, so I liked it. Good Job! :)

Fun game! I'm going to keep this around for when I get bored :D The mechanic is fun and addictive, but random enough not to hate it when you lose. It also looks really polished and plays nice. Good job!

I never had a smartphone until recently, but the point is that now I have one – and believe it or not, this is the VERY FIRST game I EVER installed on it. :D

Nice to see an Android game, though I still miss a Linux port (yeah, Android is Linux too, but I meant Linux for desktop PC, like Ubuntu).

It nicely fits the theme, and I like the gameplay idea. Thanks for giving me a game that I can play on trains! ;)

Such a wonderful concept for a tablet/phone game! I'm really impressed; I could easily see this as a fully developed app (though of course, it looks very polished already).

Great work! You should be very pleased with yourself.

WOW.

Simple. Fun. Surprisingly deep. I kept thinking I'd figured out what I needed to be optimizing for and threw myself a curveball (trapped myself in corners of increasing complexity) over and over. I'd love to write an AI for this game :)

The game's really nicely polished, I particularly love the way that things fade into view when you start a new game.

Having a big-but-not-infinite world felt kind of weird. I found myself wondering how the game would play as more of a pure puzzler, with just a few tiles in the level, and you need to get all of them.

Final random thought - I love how much room there is for elaboration on top of this base. There could be some statefulness to your shape (e.g. some tile that changes your color but not your shape when you enter it, or vice versa) to throw a wrench in any strategy that's based on simply finding the longest path in a partially visible graph.

Awesome! Wonderful!

SHAPESSSSSSSS... appealing graphics, man! I like the simplicity (i know it really is not simple) ... and it allures me how it makes me wanna try again... VERY NICE PRESENTATION ... fantastic..

encountered a bug somewhere (Code Error, it says) but it's no biggie... i dont know how to reproduce it anyways...

this is one of my faves so far :)) simple graphics really is my thing

I'm surprised by how much I like this game :D You forgot to add "current score" info when the game finishes. I can only see my highscore, but not how close I get to it! Keep working on it, it's a good one! Btw, my highscore is 100, not bad but I don't think I'll reach 223 :D

Very simple and pretty graphics.
It's very fun to play!
I think the grid should be infinite (or a different game mode). I got stuck at the borders many times. hehe
Some multipliers for matching the shape and the color would be nice too.
Awesome entry!

nice idea, but really needed some music or sound effects. while the mechanics are easy to work out for yourself the size of the level and the lose condition aren't so some explaining would be nice. its got a lot of potential for a mobile game but personally would of liked some way pf predicting what the next shape might be, it just felt random so it was hard to make informed choices when presented with multiple directions to go

Fantastic game. It's very polished and is a great idea. It's quite simple, but it does what it's designed to do very well. Some audio would have added greatly to the feeling of the game. Nice work!

Pretty neat entry, though it could use more audio. An indication about the current score in the game wouldn't hurt, either. Also, you might consider making different distinction between various colours, so that colour-blind people can enjoy your game, too. ^^'
