Rogue Rush by schizokoa

[raw]
made by schizokoa for LD28 (JAM)
So, here is our entry for the Ludum Dare Jam.

We are 3 first year game design student and this is our very first game! Quite an achievement with our huge lack of programming skill...

It was crazy hard: we saw too big, and took our time on the first day and a half. Eventually, we did a time-limited rogue like with some fast action :D

We'll take some sleep now and work on a linux port asap.
Till then, Windows build, OSX Build

Realy impresive ! You made that in only 48H ? This is absolutly awesome ! I love it ! You said the difficulty was hard but I dont think it is because you can run away of the monster realy easily. It's one of the best game I've try today. Congratulation !

Wish I had a gamepad here at work to play with... :)

Nice work for the short amount of time! I did find myself missing a soundtrack, but my Demon Hunter playing in the background took care of that.

I love roguelike games... build a roguelike game too this ld48 :D Would be nice if you would take a look at my game. Thank you. Your game is clever designed, like the time idea... cool controls. Are you planing to polish this game after the jam?

From the complete team:
So, thanks for the comment guys, it means the world to us that people we don't know played our little game! Thanks, thanks, thanks!

From the coder alone:
Sadly, the code is just holding as it is thanks to some magical duct tape, adding more would be suicidal.
I might do some code refactoring during the Christmas break though, to expend a bit on the concept.

Psychomonster: We (or at least I) will play Epic Last Bottle Of Milk as soon as possible (as soon school closes).

Wow, for a 48-hour jam, you guys sure packed a lot of stuff in there. Good job getting it all working! A nice little roguelike.

Well, that was tons of fun. I liked the item-swapping mechanic. Played with kbd, so alt was something of a problem as alt+arrow opens the window menu.

yep, the default keyboard input sucks (the lead was OSx and we only tested the windows version with a dualshock 4), you can use q and e as an alternative input solution for alt and control.

Very good performance achieved for "huge lack of programming skill" :)

I feel that the game needs more polished graphics in game than in menu. Otherwise is is a nice entry!

Even if it's not innovative, I liked the realization. It's really fun to play with a gamepad !

This game looks very polished. All the graphics, levels and the many enemies and items are well done. Only audio could be better ;) One more thing: I can't attack enemies that stand on the same tile as I do which should be possible, shouldn't it?

Not being able to see the controls more than once is a big problem. Dodging is incredibly difficult due to the grid-based movement, as is attacking. I can see a lot of work went into this but it I found it neither challenging nor very attention grabbing unfortunately. I feel bad for being so harsh. I do think there is potential here.

Excellent job! Very impressive graphically, the UI in particular looks very nice, nice and smooth controls. The only real complaint I have is the lack of audio and music, the only sound as far as I can tell is the pickup sound. Otherwise though, very good game.
