Sugar Rush by ALP_Squid

[raw]
made by ALP_Squid for LD28 (COMPO)
You, the boy, only get one sugar rush but you want more! You'll need to platform your way to the sugar pile at the end of the sugar fueled obstacle course before your energy runs out and you have a sugar crash.

AD/Arrow keys to move left and right
W/Space/Up to jump,
Jump against a wall to perform a wall bounce.
Note: You can hold down the same direction key and just tap space every time you hit a wall to bounce up between two walls easily.

I had planned to add some fast paced, 8-bit style music but unfortunately I did not have the time.

Nice.

My eyes are bleeding, in a good way. And the random motion was infuriating, in a good way.

The low frequency sfx was a little harsh but sounds were nice.

Haha, nice one. I quite like the idea, and it was fun to play. As background_nose said, kind of frustrating in a good way.

Quick amusing. I hate wall jumping!
Why does the game keep going click?

Nice! The controls was weird for me but it's ok, I'm not a professional of this kind of games :P

"I had planned to add some fast paced, 8-bit style music but unfortunately I did not have the time" This game with that music will be amazing!

@RandomM00 The clicking is meant to be footsteps, but as I found out yesterday, the sfx sound harsh and not as intended when played on speakers with less bass and more treble (I was using a pretty good speaker system when I made them and didn't think of trying them on headphones, foolish me).

Lots of you are saying about random/hard controls, is it to do with the fact that when you don't press anything, the character runs back and forth in a hyperactive way that's catching you off? I can't think of any other reason for the controls to be any harder than any other platformer, but then again, I've had more time to become accustomed to them.

Thanks a lot for the great comments though everyone, frustrating in a good way is exactly what I was going for :D

So freaking hard to control that dude. (But I think that's the point) I love the concept and the art and sounds, but the gameplay needs a little tweaking. Also those places where you only have a few pixels of clearance tend to not make it harder, but just a bit more frustrating, haha.

All-in-all a great game and a very enjoyable experience ^_^ thanks for the fun!

Solid impldemented core mechanic. The game is fun, the aesthetics are nice and I loved the level design. Well done!

The wall jump mechanic is hard to get used to, as many other games have you jump and hold the direction away from the wall to wall jump. I also kept falling off platforms due to the character moving itself, but that adds to the difficulty of the game

Fun little twitch platformer. The bright colors and flickering background felt appropriate. I like how the player runs back and forth while "standing still".

Interesting, but I couldn't get through that passing in the top of the wall.

The wall jump was a bit tricky to use, but I really like the concept of a never stopping character.

Crazy and hard to control, but the fit very well the sugar rush idea.

Probably a bit short but still a fun platformer. I liked the colours and I really loved how the player character's incessant hyperactiveness made him move quite randomly.
