Shape Shuffle by BitDare

[raw]
made by BitDare for LD35 (JAM)
This game was finished in a panic so a lot of features were not complete but I plan to continue to make everything much better. I had a fun time making it, though. There is no title screen so move quick! The game will remain on Itch.io for further development. There is already an updated version.There are also features such as the tier system that aren't fully shown.

Controls :

WAD = Movement
-Can stick to walls
Shift = Camera Movement
1(BOW), 2(SWORD), 3(HAMMER, after boss) = switch weapons
Space = Attack

I don't know if that "You beat the game" just popped out out of nowhere, but LOL I just had fun shooting arrows on the enemies. Some aren't moving right away, while I intend to attack them while they're not attacking me.

Nice job I like the idea of shooting enemies and gaining levels very simple idea.

Arrows should collide with the walls. And having a way for the player to automatically run up steps would be nice.

I loved moving really fast with the sword. The controls were really satisfying, but I would've liked it if you could be holding a directional key and then jump without having to let go. But the game was still cute and fun. Killing enemies was satisfying. However I would like if you could just walk up one block heights, as there were points where it was difficult to move forward.

Fun with nice art! The boss is a little hard though since he moves at the same speed, if not faster than you, so you have to use the sword to dash a lot

Such a short level but was pretty fun. The graphics were nice but you could easily cheat most of the gameplay using the sword's dash to just run past things.

Finished the game before I read I could switch weapons.
The collision detection allowed me to wall jump out of a cave with overhang, which is cool.
Silliness aside, looks like you over-scoped (like I did too) and ended up with something nice but empty. Next time try a bit smaller.

Interesting game, cute graphics but weird controls / use of weapons. It would be nicer if the enemies didn't spawn right on top of you.

The quick movement and jumping is very satisfying. If you continue to work on this, you could look at adjusting enemy movement -- for instance the boss tends to either move almost exactly in line with you or stand still in a position where you can attack it without worry.

I had fun playing this game, a some collision bugs but overall a good gameplay I really like how light the file is, that is something very important when developing that most people dont take into consideration. Great job

It was fun and interesting, though it was hard to tell what was actually solid ground and what would end up with you falling down into a pit you may not be able to climb out of. The sticking to walls thing sometimes messed up jumping over small stair-step obstacles, which was annoying at first, but after employing some creative wall jumps, I appreciated it and learned to time the stair jumps better to avoid the stickiness.

It was pretty fun, though maybe a bit too ambitious for a game jam, interested to see what you do with it.

Hey, I beat it. Cool. I actually had luck just sprinting through the (actually very large!) map and ignoring the enemies since they couldn't really hurt me that much as I light-sped through. Cool game, but it did chew high amounts of CPU as I played- Probably a very tight while loop which would account for the incredible speed at which I ran as well.

Haha, I beat the boss, do some exploring, start falling off a cliff thinking I'm gonna die and then, "You beat the game"! :P

I liked how the different weapons affected your speed and jump height as well as your attacking, that was a nice touch of detail! My favorite was the hammer though :)

I enjoyed progressing through the game. Nice work! I like the RPG element, but for the future, I would make it so the player cannot move while they are in mid air.

I think that at my 200+ fps the game runs a lot faster (as opposed to smoother) than intended

I really, really liked climbing up walls with the sword dash. You should design a game entirely around that feature.

It's pretty easy to tell that you made this game in panic. A lot of features I would consider to be expected are missing, including invincibility frames, enemy knockback, juice (see Juice it or Lose it on Youtube if you haven't seen it already), not being able to stick on walls, etc. But there was certain charm in the game's broken state.

i liked this game especially for its fast gameplay and that the weapons required different tactics, for example you could not jump over enemies with the heavy hammer, but could run and dodge enemies with the light bow. the level system was nice because it added a sense of progress, although i believe this will play a bigger part in the updated version that i didnt play yet. after finishing this first level, i found myself wall climbing around for a while and i could really see this becoming a fast paced action platformer. thanks for this submission :)

Lots of fun, even if it's relatively simple. If I remember, I'm definitely going to have check out your post-compo version.

That was super fun. I loved experimenting with the movement when holding different weapons. I was also impressed with myself and felt pretty cool when I was able to swoosh around on the sword and perform wall climbing digging the blade into the terrain. The physics and expansive levels were really fun to play around and gave me ample room to take advantage of the movement. Great job! And thanks for making this!

I think I found a glitch on the hammer boss. I was able to attack him without him attack me!!!! :) It was cool to beat the game and I look forward to playing more levels if you update! Nice work!!

I loved the walljumping, but the mechanics could have tied in more with the theme.
Nice game, tough! :D
