Just. One. Second. by kbake
This is my first Ludum Dare (first game jam too), so I wanted to do something fairly simple. I spent most of my time working on it today, wish I had put more into it before. Overall, it was fun and I learned a lot so I'll try to make this a recurring thing!
I used C++ with SFML 2.0 (http://sfml-dev.org/), OpenMPT (http://openmpt.org/), Soundation (http://soundation.com/), and Bfxr (http://www.bfxr.net/).
Basically, click on the button within a second. As you go, the button gets smaller. What do you get? Ummm...bragging rights? Post your best score in the comments if you want, I didn't get to implement the leaderboards.

On to a few things about your game. Here's what I liked:
1. The music was kickin', and never really got old for me.
2. The fact that the button got smaller every time made it challenging enough to compel me to keep playing. Another thing that kept me playing was the fact that the game was constantly moving forward (there was hardly a break in between)
3. The clock in the background was perfect in terms of representing your game visually. Making it the centerpiece turned a fairly simple game into a fun, almost intense time-kill.
Now then, here's a few things I didn't like...
1. The voice started to get on my nerves toward the end. It wasn't COMPLETELY annoying, but hearing "Get Ready" over and over was a bit grating.
2. The button continues to get smaller even after you lose, so it was still tiny when the game reset to round 1.
All-in-all, I enjoyed the time I spent with the game. While simple, it provided me with a good amount of entertainment. Good job!
running under windows8
@MrTedders, what problems are you having? Is it coming up with a message or closing immediately? I'm on Windows 8 as well, but who knows, it could very well be.
To everyone else, I'm trying to figure out what the issue is and I apologize for it not working properly! If you don't have Visual Studio on your computer, something that might work is trying to download the Visual Studio redistributable here: http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=30679, but I'm just guessing! Thanks for your patience.
And if you're on twitter, I'm @SnoringFrog. Otherwise, just email the stuff about my game to dokppyht@sharklasers.com (temporary email address, so if you don't see this within about an hour I won't get whatever you send)
Though I had issues starting the game on Windows 8 since the menu always closed but that is not your fault, W8 is Bill Gates's crime.
Btw, having the audio in WAV format gives a heavy file to download :/
Would have been nice if there were two dots after level 10, or maybe something else to vary the game up a bit. Anyway, good job!
@eemmbbeerr, what exactly was the issue you were having with the menu? I'm also on Windows 8, so I find it odd others have had a hard time running the game. It could be that I'm developing it on Windows 8 that's messing it up...not sure though.
@mmickyman, thanks for looking into it; I found the same information. I find it really odd that people are getting the debug dll when the newest version was built under the "Release" build (though the optimizations were turned off). The WAV thing was something I didn't even think about, what would a better option be? OGG?
@steamgirl, I had a lot of ideas for possible additions to make it tougher/crazier, but most of the first day was spent away from the computer and I didn't have enough time to implement them. I'll be working on it and adding fun new things to it soon, so thanks for the idea!
