Christmas Cookies by hissssssssss

[raw]
made by hissssssssss for LD28 (JAM)
You're hard at work the day before Christmas, and your spouse has baked a batch of cookies. You can't get that delicious smell out of your head! You're allowed to eat one cookie, but the rest need to be saved for tomorrow's Christmas party.

Don't succumb to the urge to eat cookies! Finish your work without eating more than one cookie.

Right mouse button: Do work. The next thing you need to do has a red exclamation point. If you do things out of order, you'll lose progress.

Left mouse button: Drag work things around your work space.

Avoid clicking on cookies with either mouse button!

NOTES:
As usual in my rush to submit things, a few unnecessary library files got added by cxfreeze and made the distribution larger than it needs to be. I'll figure out which ones can be safely removed and upload a cleaner archive.

Sorry about the lack of sound, title screen, game over screen, etc.. I made this game in the final hour so it was a real rush job.

Game crashes if I click and drag on a cookie. Not 100% repro but pretty consistently the second time I do it.

mtinkerhess: That's not a crash, that's the game ending because you ate two cookies! I didn't have time to put in a game over screen, it was so down to the wire.

You can't move cookies, only your work stuff. You have to work around the cookies.

Oh gotcha! I should have read the description on this page before into the game. I like how you can move stuff around on the desk, this feels almost like I'm back at work.

I liked it! It is strange how such a simple mechanic can in fact evoke some of the sensation of trying to focus on work while permanently being tempted to do something else, and as the compulsion unconsciously grows, it becomes increasingly more difficult to work. Not sure if that is what you meant, but it really reminds me of the god damned Twitter and Facebook tabs tempting me as I try to focus on coding or something.

Also, this is one of the most 'cost-effective' designs I've seen in this LD! With a very small amount of technology and assets, you managed to conjure a rather unique theme. I've rated you better than several system-heavy games! This game is almost a manifesto against the feature creep. haha

Great job!
