Ember by Darkwater

[raw]
made by Darkwater for LD28 (COMPO)
Woah, I've probably spend a little too much time on this.
Anyway!

I've made a tower defense game. There are 4 levels, and the enemies are randomly generated. Bosses also randomly spawn, marking the end of a "wave". Difficulty rises with time. In addition to the 3 towers you can build, you can also run around and shoot things yourself!

I've made a stream replacement page (before the compo started, of course :v) that contains some highlights, and soon a timelapse. http://novaember.com/ld/

If you want to play it on Linux, get LOVE through your package manager (be sure to get v0.9.0!) or from http://love2d.org/

Now if you'll excuse me, I'm going to get some sleep!

PS.: It's an endurance game, there's no winning! c:<
PPS.: I forgot to remove some debug features. (Don't) press mouse 3 to lose and mouse 2 for slow motion.
PPPS.: Looks like I should have added some instructions. In case it's unclear to you, you're the blue circle. You can walk around with the WSAD keys, and shoot with the mouse. You can only place towers near yourself.
PPPPS.: With low framerates, fast enemies can get stuck circling around checkpoints. Hold mouse 2 as a temporary fix.

Straightforward tower defense, although it could've used a few more game mechanics to make it more interesting.

Sorry, cannot play it:

This game was made for a version that is probably incompatible.
The game might still work, but it is not guaranteed.
Furthermore, this means one should not judge this game or the engine if not.

Could have used some particle effects when bullets hit something, as well as maybe camera shakes. Other than that pretty good job, bby.

It's a solid game, adding a playable character in a tower defense was a good catch, though, it could have more, i had some fun with it :D

Solid tower defense. Although I can't seem to get to the end of a level. As well as being able to place turrets on the patch ;)

Well made Tower Defense, i found the art very clean and working really well. with only one life we really need to keep an eye on the fastest enemies even if we have a good defense.

Really amazing and original concept. I didn't expect a tower defense, really well done!

Reminds me of the game Sanctum, which was an FPS/Tower Defense game. This was very difficult, and I didn't like that if you played a map for a while then failed, it would remember what difficulty you failed at and start you on that on every single map. Otherwise, I had no issues with it.

Thanks for the feedback, everyone! Might be a bit late with this, but @f7f5, you need to make sure you've got version 0.9.0, it looks like you got 0.8.0. Also, @SnoringFrog, starting on the last difficulty on every level is a bug, I forgot to reset the difficulty value when starting a new level. Just restart the game and it should start at 1 again. Anyway, thanks for playing, and thanks for all the feedback! I wouldn't expect this much positive feedback.
