Dream forever, live once by Volute
How good is your reaction time ? Dream forever, live once is a short metaphorical game about life.
I really tried to stick with the theme. The game will only let you play and make a score ONE TIME, so make it count :)
Controls : arrow keys / space
So what's your score ? So far the better one is 1728 !

(i think sounds could be a bit better also ^^)
Gameplay is addicting, too. I love these kind of games.
The sounds are a bit of a disappointment for me too ! I spent a lot of time on a procedural generation of the music as I wanted to have the tempo of the music and the speed of the game evolving together, but it didn't work out, I don't know if it was me or just flash player not being able to play the sounds with enough precision, so I had to make something else quickly.
As you said, sounds are a bit off (music seems not on the same speed as the game). I would have loved more feedbacks too (like how many mistakes are left).
Leaving that aside, the graphics and overall feel was wonderful! For 48 hours, this is awesome!
Still, if I stop being troublesome for a moment and play it how it was intended to be played, I think its a really cool idea, and I appreciate the metaphor.
Those graphics really are appealing. The way it moves the way it looks, the 'thoughts' in the background. Lovely!
I was no where near 628 :(
And yeah, would've loved to have had music in a rhythm game.
You only get one chance to play, sticking to the theme litterally is a clever Idea.
But as said before: there some lack of feedback (either for failure as for doing it right). Except the scoring mechanics there is not much to keep you in the game.
Maybe I'm super sensitive to the sad, linear nature of our lives, and how it sometimes indeed feels like an inevitable run to our end... And I feel even more for people I see around me, having to deal with getting old and coping with the fact that they didn't manage to do all they wanted in their lives... As Ray Kurzweil says, to me death indeed is the greatest of all tragedies. Or as Tyrion Lannister says, the problem with death is that it is so definitive! hahaha
Anyways, what I mean is that I could really relate to your game. It's subtle, evokative and obviously has a very honest and personal message. I love it!
