The Grid by chillsters

[raw]
made by chillsters for LD28 (JAM)
The Grid is a first person memory game.

We used the theme as "you only have one chance to memorise the grid before you travel towards the exit blind"

Sounds help you to navigate away from traps on the way, and the grid expands in size each level, if you reach level ten, there may or may not be an easter egg :)

We plan to use the sonar vision we developed in this jam, in one of our games coming out next year. Its aimed to be a horror game, so if you enjoy the game please find us on facebook, twitter, deviant art, indie DB etc :)

WASD to move

Left Click in yellow zone to sonar
Right Click in yellow zone to see top down view

This game has tons of mood; the whirring of the grinders made me viscerally afraid of what would happen if I fell into one, and I'm not usually that easy to frighten. The graphics are good, with good use of colour to indicate danger or goals, and the music has a nice sci-fi vibe. The concept is great.

On the downside, the first few levels are very easy: you can blunder your way to the exit with little challenge (though that changes soon enough). Also, I got annoyed at how my character apparently can't travel through spaces that look wide enough for a human.

I could use the top-down view anywhere I wanted at the map, not just in the yellow area. A bug?

Nitpicks aside, an immersive game, and very polished given the time frame.
