Life: The Cynical-Hipster-Tetris Version by Tim Kaldor

[raw]
made by Tim Kaldor for LD28 (COMPO)
This is a game about life, it will make you think, it will make you laugh, for all the wrong reasons but that's what Ludum Dare is all about. Have fun.

I liked it. I was expecting death when there were no moves left, and I wished I could see the full shape of a block. The mechanics and how they relate to the story are great, and have greater potential still.

Very interesting and thought provoking. Although the "you can't play again" message is very easily defeated by refreshing the page. :P

I liked it, would've been nice to have more of an explanation as to what the blocks did, but I guess that's the point.

Very interesting...A very good cynical Tetris reflection of life.
Agreed that some simple background music would be very helpful.

An extremely well put together game. The thoughts and symbolism found inside are absolutely wonderful to experience, and the game mechanics are quite interesting as well. Will not be surprised if this is my favourite LD game I play this time. Awesome job mate.

Cool game! One of the more unique games I have played thus far! Kudos on coming up with something different.
some sound effects/music would definitely have added to the experience but pretty cool none the less.

Thanks everybody, glad you liked it. I would have loved to do sound but unfortunately at 4:30am, I was still wracking my brain to come up with cynical commentary, composing beautiful music was the furthest thing from my mind.

I did my sound at 4:30 am, so that is no excuse... :P

I crushed the hopes and dreams of a few red circles, but only because I wanted to see if the game said something beyond the first comment...

I must say I was not expecting my life to come crashing down at 18...

Fun, but I was disappointed that doing one full line would do nothing... The rest of the game is really interesting and it kept me in until the very end.

What an interesting game. I especially like when I was told that it wasn't as easy as it looked, that got a laugh out of me. I'm not entirely sure why I died, though.

Graphics are crisp and clean.

@Chris Mondok - My Answer: death often comes when you least expect it. The truth: it was late, I was tired and I ran out of witty remarks.

@xgeovanni - congratulations, you discovered the metagame.

Really enjoyed this one - excellent. Your lack of witty remarks early in the morning was witty in and of itself! You have my twitter patronage also. It made me laugh and think. This is what Ludum Dare games should be like.

Nice game, but the mouse was incredibly laggy and made it kind of hard to play, other than that great job!!

An interesting little game with a nice message. The twist of screwing over the dots you tried to help was neat. Could've done with some atmospheric audio, and at one point I managed to get a 3 piece shape. That's not a tetromino! ;P

Most certainly the best attempt at a deep game I've seen this jam. Great work, I will say the "create block" felt a bit redundant though.

Quite an absorbing game, but I never worked out a single thing about how it ticks. With time I just stopped looking at the score and went for pretty patterns.

I really was expecting more of a Conway's Game of Live aspect though.

The mechanics aren't very clear, but still it's very symbolic. Also, cynicism is the only correct look upon our life as humans.

This is brilliant, i love how you define your own goals while playing. At some point i decided the comfort of copying blocks was better than the challenge of creating them, which is interesting to think about.

Really interesting game! I love the way the game builds and the story that sort of goes along with it. (Really reminds me of Thomas Was Alone while I was playing :3) Really enjoyed it! Great work!
