Air by inucode

Originally I wanted to make a game where you just explore some underwater ruins while trying not to drown, but I figured that'd be too boring considering I can't draw. So I added in the jet gun to make things a bit more interesting! I ran out of ideas for puzzles so I finetuned the player movement and animations instead! I'm really happy with how the movement mechanics turned out, even though there's still a few buggy things with them. My goal for this jam was to learn Unity 2D though, and I'd say making this game helped with that a lot! I might revisit this when I have more time to make the game more atmospheric.

I must admit I think the controls are extraordinarily unnatural. I like the minimalist color scheme and sprite art.

If you take the game further, I would really work on the controls as previously commented. If you're using WASD as suggested, Z is underneath you. That's an awkward gesture to accomplish.

I think the fading the screen to black is more frustrating than it is motivating at this point. The character swims very slowly so if you're trying to reach the surface for air, it's really stressful (in an unnecessary way) for the screen to also be darkening. Try having the low end be 50% darkness instead of 100. You'll get the same drowning/dying effect your going for without leaving the player blind. :)

Thanks for taking the time to create it.

Controls weren't very good, but with a bit of tuning, this could be really good!

I like the concept but the controls are a little bit complicated. When the character touch the ground and you press Z he 'jumps' really fast.

I liked the concept and the animations, but also felt that the controls, combined with the limited amount of air, made the game quite difficult. The jet propulsion feature was nice, but also a little frustrating to control.

This was a fun game :) Definitely difficult though!
