Pyramid Breaker by DifferentName
Break Stuff! Buy Upgrades! Pyramid Breaker is a brick breaking game with an egyptian theme. I'd like to do more with the upgrade options later, but with the 48 hours I focused more on effects to add a bit of juice to the actions.
Arrows to move Left and Right.
Spacebar to shoot a Scarab Ball if you have enough money to buy it (the first one is free).
Click the 1 or 2 key to buy upgrades.
R to Restart.
UPDATE: Added HTML5! Still haven't figured out the missing sound in IE, but it seems to be running pretty well overall. The Windows version works best.

5 minutes later, THIS crazy awesome chaos (http://imgur.com/a/MFXbN) is what happens! Literally standing still would be enough to deflect hundreds of scarabs that would get exponentially more scarabs, that I could then pay to make cheap enough that they actually gave me money! Every block dropped another scarab! It was amazing!
I'm not sure if this was intended as the end game, but I think it is really enjoyable to become over powered, to make that much progression in a short time, to 'break' the game...
Is that why it's called 'Pyramid Breaker'?
Anyhow, I had a great time, thanks for sharing and well done!
@kraiom Thanks! I've only ever made games in GameMaker and Flash, so I don't know how much extra work is in other methods. Mostly though, I think it's just practice making games, especially in game jams.
After I started upgrading I soon discovered the following equation:
Simple Brick-Breaker Game + Overpower-Upgrades = Perfect Chaos Fun Game!
It was so satisfying to see my army of scarabs grow! After the point where you get money for 'buying' scarabs all hell was let loose!
It's a shame that the time for reaching the 'overpowered state' is far too short.
More sorts of scarabs and level in a future version would be very cool! :)
I guess my critique is that, after a certain point, it didn't feel like there was much of a challenge. It was fun to get more powerful, but it'd be nice if there was a ramp up to the difficulty as well - maybe the scarabs could move faster or more chaotically?
The idea of a block-breaking game with upgrades like this is really compelling - I agree with others that there's a lot of potential to expand this if you're so inclined!
I would like to see some modification bricks for the scarabs, which would modify the gameplay.
Really nice job.
The graphics and the mechanics are really solic, and the money and the purchasal of improvements make it different from the original.
The main problem I see is that you can purchase the upgrades without limit, breaking the game really easily! (I ended up with so much scarabs that the blocks couldnt spawn fast enough lol). Anyway, really fun, keep up the good work!
It would be nice to see some different scarab types, for example if some are slower or faster, or can only take a max amount of hits, or if they explode on impact and destory neighbour tiles. You could also consider some upgrades for the character, for example move faster, cover larger area, or other abilities to help bounce back more scarabs.
And it is too simple, with enough of second upgrades it is possible to just stay at one place. New blocks just breaks immediately after spawning (https://i.gyazo.com/cce942bf0859e0cb53f77a96f8349bae.png).
I like the art style and animation in this game.
