Let's Save the World (again) by narsil

[raw]
made by narsil for LD29 (COMPO)
My second attempt at #LD48 :)!

Sadly even worse than my last one ;). But what can you do ^^. Liked the theme a lot this time, but didn't get the necessary motivation and momentum to finish a whole game. My main idea was to make a top down action RPG, aka Legend of Zelda or Secret of Mana. Where you run around in the world collecting items, killing monster and such. There would be four different dungeons one for each element; earth, wind, fire and water, where water would be the last and connect to the theme since it would have been below sea level. So the goal of the game should be to venture below surface, with some epic motivation like to resurrect a dead family member or something like that.

Anyway, I'm releasing the small bit that was done at least, just a sort of technic demo where you can move around using the arrow keys and swing your sword using space. Notice in particular the 2d sound panning effects by swinging your sword inside the the temple to the west. Opens up for interesting gameplay in the future.

Already looking forward to the next ludum dare. Until then, happy hacking!

Sounds like it was quite an ambitious plan! The into scene is lovely though, very epic feel!

I was really excited when I clicked on this game. The art looks great and the theme sounds pretty exciting. I hope you continue to work on this because it sounds like fun!

Echo regarding ambitious. The game overall looks great, great intro and had it perhaps even just had one working temple it would have been quite fun to play. Theres no reason why it couldnt be turned into a mini series, where you take on one temple in each version and it all ties in.

Keep at it, as its got the makings of something good.

Cool idea but maybe too ambitious for an LD! ;)
I hope you will work on this more, I'd love to play a full version! :)

Second ambitious :) But sort of gave up on the idea of creating a full game halfway into the compo, so basically decided to just test some stuff and play around with some dev tools to see what I could create, thx for the positive feedback!

To bad you weren't able to take it any further, as others have said, excellent work on the audio and art in such a small time window.

Rule number 1 of Game Development (for big and small projects): Your Scope is too big.

Rule number 2: You scope is too goddamn big.

I liked the art and that opening is great. But hopefully next time you aim a little lower so you can finish it.

This has potential to be a really neat game! This is something you should consider to keep working on after LD!

I love the graphics and the music, clean and smooth, but I couldn't figure out what to do in the game :/
