OblivionMiner by Prudiiarca

[raw]
made by Prudiiarca for LD29 (JAM)
This Game is about a forgetful miner, who lost his orientation in his own mine.. Help him to get back to his home!
I ended up with the JAM again, because I had a lack of time due to studies. Nethertheless I am really proud of what I came up with. Concerning the problems I had last time I managed to finish a far more difficult project in less time.
Of course this LD there were some issues too, e.g. I lost more than a half day with working out a concept, which I could not realize. So I changed to this smaller one. Moreover I am quite dissaffected with gameplay, graphics and sound, but as explained I couldn't work it out, thus it's ok.
Summarizing: I love Ludum Dare for showing me my progress in learning game programming and for the nice and productive criticism I get through it's community. This way: Please leave a comment!

I just happened to somehow get to the end almost straight away! I liked the visuals, but I found the mood lacking. I think even just the addition of some atmospheric music would have given it that extra oomph. I made myself replay it to see if I missed anything, but the only thing I found was the pickaxe and the noise it makes when you stand on it.

Giving the player a sense of mystery (perhaps being able to uncover things to progress to the end rather than stumble upon it) could be one direction to take it further.

Well, I've made it. From the gameplay view it's just a maze, but as curious person I looked at the code and I'm impressed that it's only awt/swing and custom renderer. Really nice job from technical view!

Thank you very much for the feedback. For me it is one of the most important aspects of ludum dare!
@Lizzip That's exactly why I am quite unhappy with the gameplay itself. I had no time to work it out because I used the few hours I wasn't stying to build up the engine and the map. I hope I will have finished my engine next time so I can spend more time on gameplay. It honors you you tried hard to find more in it...
@marccspro Of cause I could do that, but it's really messed up. I am going to make a small tutorial series about raycasting, so if you want to learn it, you should definitely look into my youtube channel (same name there) in a few weeks...
@rincewind_cz thanks alot. Btw, where did you find my code?

I loved it, I find the notion of being lost in a mine terrifying, and the Minecraft easter egg was pretty cool.

Couldn't run it properly, because of lags. Though the part I saw was promising!

A bit buggy but, not bad, i'd have some more obstacles in the game though, it was just kinda boring walking through the maze. Well done though

@Prudiiarca, java decompiler ;-) It's fast and easy.. and most of LD entries aren't obfuscated...
