Team Lucky Red brings you Blundergaffe to celebrate Ludumdare 29!

With the theme of Beneath the Surface we want bring back to the experience of of classic video gaming. Blundergaffe is a thrilling top-down shooter, with a twist. We wanted to pay tribute to the classics such as snakes, cannon fodder, and other shoot 'em up, so we included many core mechanics into the movement system. Our goal with Blundergaffe is simple. We want to give abstract and modern look of the game, while keeping classic gaming we all know and love - beneath the surface.

Story:

Blundergaffe consists of a small company of brave men in red coats (so brave that they do not need helmets) who travels into the darkness. These well trained soldiers have to face the onslaught of random blue-coat-wearing crippled soldiers.

Future Goals:

After Ludumdare, we plan on continue working with Blundergaffe to continue polishing the game. We hope for better AI and more enemy variations as well as power ups. We love humor, and would love to see the game realised with a fun and quirky story to give the soldiers more personality. In addition to more content, we would love to add more visual variations between all sprites such as different clothings, helmets, and weapons. Finally, we want Blundergaffe to be as fun as possible for players of all ages. Children today must be reminded about great games that we loved in the past like Snake. Good times.

One of the more innovative games I've seen so far. The controls are very complex but I was able to get the hang of them. Very nice!

Thanks for the comments, they are really helpful :).

Regarding movement, we didn't get a chance to touch it up in the end sadly. Hopefully in an update movement will be cleaner.

the controls were a little hard to figure out. I am putting it in my check later to see if it improves. nice effort.

Sometimes I couldn't move the characters, they would just get stuck. I don't know if it was my lack of ability or some bug. It took me some time to get used to the controls. In the other hand, the art and music are great and the game is very fun once you know what you are doing.

Fixed a few things, animation bug when moving around (stuttering), leader getting stuck on your own troops and a few logic bugs when main line dies. Adjusted controls a bit mainly putting in ZXCV.

I've now spent almost an hour playing this. Why did you have to do this to me? Why?

Also: Very nice work, I really love this

Great idea, but controls are overcomplicated. Lots of variety and fun gameplay. Cool stuff.

The game has rather complex game mechanics, so it takes a while to get used to them. Would be nice to have some kind of tutorial to get faster into the game. But nonetheless it's an addictive game.
