WindPowered! by Guennor

=======================================================================

I'd like to thank everyone that is playing it! It still has some bugs but I think most of the gameplay I wanted to include in it is implemented. This is the first official ludum dare i've ever finished, after years of trying.

=======================================================================
=======================================================================

You are Sir William Pym, also known as Pym Will, an ingenious explorer that can harness the power of wind. See how far up you can go using his wind powered vessel!

Controls:
Swipe to use your windmancy! You can invert the swipe directions, too!

Tips:
-A gush of wind upwards with leaves means that your next swipe up may cause some items to be thrown upwards!
-Sometimes you will come across an impassable gate. It has a combination of arrows under it - you need to swipe in the order the arrows appear for the game to open, and you need to do that above the dotted line.
-Don't go too fast. You'll most definitely die if you do. Doesn't matter if you go slow, just keep your pace and you should be fine.
-Please don't play with a touchpad :P The ideal situation is playing on a touchscreen, but it works with a mouse as well.

All of the art assets were painted by me.

Most of the programming was done by me - except for the touch assets that I always use - touch controls are kind of too hard for me to program in a timely manner. Shout-out to the fine folks who made this wonderful asset, Easy Touch, that helped me SO much since college.

Cool game, nice artwork! I played on my mobile, pretty difficult but the swipe for wind mechanic is solid. I think I would've preferred it a bit more floaty, and the option to swipe in the direction of wind rather than opposite. Also the guy needs a face! Great work :)

Doesn't seem to want to run for me in Firefox (desktop). Shame as it looks nice.

Yo, @Traf d-Lo, I switched to WebGL, now it should run fine on any browser. Sorry about that!

Really cool game! Well executed game idea, love that the sprites look hand drawn! Swiping makes you feel like a God and I like that :D

277! Played on desktop. Art, Sound & Gameplay were well done! I would make the puzzle directions appear more often as they were the most fun. Fun game to play though, though my wrists are hurting (but that's probably from the jam).

Innovation: This was an interesting take on that type of game. I see a lot of potential there.

Fun: The game was pretty fun.

Theme: Your take on the theme was ok.

Graphics: You did a great job on that part. I think the graphics are fitting perfect for a mobile game like this.

Overall: This was honestly one of the better games that I鈥檝e played so far this LD. It was a little hard for me to fly up high but I defently had fun with your game.

Congratulations on finishing Ludum Dare 36! I鈥檇 really appreciate it if you could take the time to leave some feedback on my game in return. You can find it at

Hi, nice game and congratulations ! We're realizing a video with several games of the Ludum Dare #36. We made the same thing at the previous jam.

Can you add your game on indiexpo.net ? (it's free)
So we can include also your game in the video ;)
p.s. write #LDJAM in the game's description.

Pretty interesting! I found it very challenging to play on my laptop's touchpad, but I can see the potential for it being easier on mobile. I liked the crafting system - I'd be intrigued to see a more in-depth upgrade tree in a later version. One sticking point for me was that the obstacles seem to instantiate on camera - by which I mean, sometimes, I'd drift off the bottom of the screen a bit, and when I came back the spikes were now in a totally different place. That was a little frustrating and sometimes made it feel like you were being punished for taking your time to plan. All in all, a cool experience. I'll try grabbing the APK for my phone when I get a chance, too.

The core mechanics are great, and the game plays well in the browser. This is a nice game for casual play. I like it.

Fun and complete game!
I like just using drums as BGM
But the game seems hard for me, I'm always having trouble when it's at high speed.
Still, cool game. Well done!

Excellent Graphics! I particularly liked the humor.

I liked the game a lot. The balloon is hard to control. Maybe it would get better with practice, but I think you should tune it more. Some of the obstacle appear to block the entire screen, which is confusing.

A great little game, with some great music and art. The game sometime feels a bit unfair, especially when something suddenly out of the blue bursts the balloon. But overall very well done.

Great little game with nice particle effects(the wind is really nicely done) and enjoyable gameplay. I like how the head of the main character is a wind toy. The addition of a Android port is always a good thing.

Played on pad. Nice idea and characters' design)
Game has some troubles with landscape orientation (UI scales by width so buttons become very large) and collision detection. Nevertheless, these issues are easy to solve and gameplay has good potential)
Good luck!

great game!, have fun playing it, and hand getting tired with all the swipe with mouse lol

love the aesthetic and the fan-people couple lol,

anyway, i don't know if i find a bug or not, but for some reason when i flying up theres like 1 screen full of spike, but when touch it does nothing, and about couple seconds from there i also see couple of spike that dissapear suddenly :/

Fun game, there should be some more upgrades, such as limited protection from the spikes. Also the spikes should be in front of clouds as you sometimes die for seemingly no reason

Amazing game! It's probably one of the best games I met here even though I find the controls to be a little difficult. Anyway the spikes hidden behind the clouds are too tricky and sometimes they are impossible to spot. Overall the complexity of the game and the graphics are amazing. Good job.

the button combination doesn't work all the time (as in, I can just skip it as the collision is wonky). How the people's heads were fans and the man pointing in the direction he wanted to go, as he was the master of the wind, was cool. In fact, I too am the master of the wind, http://pasteboard.co/f05DaGDj7.png . If you just go up really fast then you are moving too fast for collision detection to work :) The upgrades are cool too but not necessary once you realize this.

haha @AODQ good job! The game is buggy as hell, I should've put some more time into bugfixing. Thanks for commenting :)

I loved loved loved the fan-for-a-face style, but it was super hard to control. That was until like aodq I realised I could swipe like a manic to shoot off the top of the screen and avoid everything :) great job!

I really like the art and I think it controls pretty well. I did the webgl version but I also downloaded the APK and will try it out on android. I dare say this would make for a high quality android game (compared to a lot of other stuff on google play.) Great job!!!

What a great entry, like any other distance game trying to beat your record is highly addictive but you went beyond just allowing upgrades through purchasing - this has a crafting system, a great touch. The sounds are good, graphics are great, the random occurrence of obstacles can make things difficult but you kept the odds pretty fair I'd say, it's certainly not an impossible game but when you have a bad run you really feel it. The controls are intuitive and fluid, and give you a real sense of urgency when you start to lose your momentum and fall back to earth. Good stuff.

Oh, I played this one some time ago and forgot to give feedback. It's one of the most polished games I've played in this jam. Not much to say.

To be fair, I'm not sure about the upgrade. Is it good to rise faster?

Loved it anyway
