MOTHERSHIP by fabsy

[raw]
made by fabsy for LD36 (JAM)
This is a simulation/management game where you rebuild your ship and explore a procedurally generated galaxy for resources.

In this prototype, the objective is to research the ancient artifact to its completion (100%) and keep the oxygen and carbon levels above 0. You cannot interact with the crew screen or reassign roles, and the ship building is purely cosmetic at the moment.

There is a small chance to lose crew members or finding new ones when harvesting any planet.

This entry was inspired by Dwarf Fortress, EVE Online, Aurora and Prison Architect.

----- Resources -----

Oxygen - Needed for crew survival
Carbon - Same as oxygen (food)
Silicon - Needed to advance research
Iron - Needed to build any tile
Hydrogen - Fuel for the ship

----- Controls -----

Right-click and middle click: Drag camera
Scroll wheel: Zoom camera
Left-click on a planet on the "planet survey" list: Harvest planet

BUILD MODE:
- Left click: place tile

GALAXY SCREEN:
- Left clicking on a star sets a new destination

----- Intro -----

Commander, we have discovered an ancient alien artifact during an expedition

During its retrieval, an unknown force coming from within destroyed
half of the ship and most of the crew along with it!

Only three remain. we must find some scientists to figure out
how to destroy the artifact

I feel there isn't much to do for now (except harvesting planets) but I really would love to see this idea expanded. (Dwarf Fortress in space?! Woah!)

There is not much to do, yeah (that's why I added a short-term "objective") but I just wanted to get this project started and the jam was the ideal platform to get me to do it. Thanks!

This is a nice start for a great game, the graphics feels good. Little gameplay for now but it looks good for a start.

What made you think this game it's about ancient technology? The objective?

Thanks. I was going for a kind of overall background setting, but it's just materialized through the objective itself and the intro because of time constraints.

Most of the time I will try to fit Space into any theme though, so that's a challenge!

I must say that it is very nice concept. I can appreciate procedurally generated stuff and the star system looks amaizing. I really liked the graphics style. It would be nice to see more of the gameplay completed, it surely has potential!

Lovely graphics! I included it in my compilation video series of Ludum Dare 36, if you鈥檇 like to take a look :) https://youtu.be/iJTT4Yba0N8

I like the look and feel of the UI. The gameplay seems like a solid foundation to build on, and I hope you keep developing it and adding some additional depth to the simulation.

Fun game, even if it isn't what I usually play. The graphics were pretty. The gameplay was easy to understand once I started playing.
I think I accidently demolished part of the ship, but I'm not sure what happened. It wasn't clear to me what happened. The numbers were hard to read, but that may have been because I was playing it as windowed, rather that full screen.
I do think giving the crew names would be a nice touch for future versions. :D
Good job!
