I mean, it's Java, isn't it? I'm not even sure about how it runs in a browser. Anyway, I really love it, the level of polishing is astonishing for such a short time. I don't even know how to start to reproduce that in something like Phaser."},{"author_name":"TeslaCools","author_uid":"112492","time":"Aug 30, 2016 @ 6:39am","epoch":1472538840,"text":"Thematically this game crushes it! the retro aesthetic is spot on and consistent, the beat-em up gameplay is reminiscent of older games. It feels a little sluggish on my browser, I'm not sure if that's due to lag or the controls, but everything else is great. I especially love the screen shake that gives punches a bit extra substance."},{"author_name":"ondrej.paska","author_uid":"37297","time":"Aug 30, 2016 @ 9:42am","epoch":1472549820,"text":"Haha, great job, really funny. I played the Web version and I love how the game integrates perfectly with the nice background image. \r<br\/>\r<br\/>However the game began to run very sluggishly after level 3 so I was unable to continue. A shame really as I like the humor, presentation and overall idea. Good job."},{"author_name":"wilsk","author_uid":"50407","time":"Aug 31, 2016 @ 11:43am","epoch":1472643480,"text":"Nice game, I loved the background image :) I pressed space to jump though and the screen scrolled down and then it took me a while to work out the only way to scroll back was PgUp. After that I was too scared to jump!"},{"author_name":"Roland M","author_uid":"88456","time":"Sep 2, 2016 @ 9:58pm","epoch":1472853180,"text":"Amazing mood and game! It is Java, but Java is pretty decent these days, especially for jam games. LibGDX takes the Java source and compiles it down to HTML5, transpiling Java code to Google's GWT framework.\r<br\/>\r<br\/>@Headmade - We didn't run into any performance issues during development, but if you'd like to play all the way through then please feel free to grab the desktop build. It should run quite well.\r<br\/>\r<br\/>@wilsk - The space bar thing didn't happen on Chrome while we were developing so we never noticed it. There's a fix in place now, thanks for the heads up.\r<br\/>\r<br\/>@TheMightyTeam - It is open source, we just forgot to link to it. The code link is now available."},{"author_name":"gonutz","author_uid":"110557","time":"Sep 10, 2016 @ 12:04pm","epoch":1473508740,"text":"A brawler - that's ancient technology right there! :)\r<br\/>\r<br\/>I really like your game, I love brawlers. Especially that parking lot and similar scenery where you can move higher up, this gives the level more depth. Nice visuals with the animations and particle effects!\r<br\/>\r<br\/>One problem: the punching is too slow, when I hit ENTER there is a big delay before actually punching. This is death to a brawler's mechanics. Good thing you have infinite lives in this one ;)\r<br\/>\r<br\/>The AI is very basic and does not feel natural, enemies walk up to your x position and follow that, only moving in y when they move in x as well. This is not a problem, though, as this means not all of them come to you at the same time.\r<br\/>\r<br\/>Overall, I really like your game (sorry for the critique but I want it to be constructive) and I am looking forward to your next jam entry!"}],"images":["ld36\/18212-fc92c51740ebf016f222cbfc15770b8b.jpg","ld36\/18212-a65fd181949a8431226e9527c8abad04.jpg","ld36\/18212-40ae9bdd8546a5557047f72f078c5be7.jpg","ld36\/18212-229c1070c60f0a075ef9b7f324f230fd.jpg"],"links":[{"url":"http:\/\/games.lando.systems\/ld36-coot","text":"Web WebGL HTML5"},{"url":"http:\/\/inthelifeofdoug.com\/ld36-coot\/index.php","text":"Web (Mirror)"},{"url":"http:\/\/games.lando.systems\/ld36-coot\/ld36-coot.jar","text":"Desktop (Jar)"},{"url":"https:\/\/github.com\/bploeckelman\/LudumDare36","text":"Source"}],"metadata":{"g_key":"1706","g_author":"18212","g_event":"LD36","g_eventkey":"35","g_subevent":"JAM","g_urlkey":"1661","g_title":"COOT - Council of Obsolete Technologies","g_status":"UCHK1","g_place":"99999","g_commentcount":"11","g_site2_node_id":"0","g_hide":"N","g_has_icon":"Y","g_rqueue":"0","g_random":"0"},"nds":[],"node":null,"orig_images":["http:\/\/ludumdare.com\/compo\/wp-content\/compo2\/\/570486\/18212-shot0-1472520558.png-eq-900-500.jpg","http:\/\/ludumdare.com\/compo\/wp-content\/compo2\/\/570486\/18212-shot1-1472520558.png-eq-900-500.jpg","http:\/\/ludumdare.com\/compo\/wp-content\/compo2\/\/570486\/18212-shot2-1472520558.png-eq-900-500.jpg","http:\/\/ludumdare.com\/compo\/wp-content\/compo2\/\/570486\/18212-shot3-1472520558.png-eq-900-500.jpg"],"text":"COOT - Council of Obsolete Technologies\r\n\r\n-----------------------------------------------------------\r\nControls: \r\nWASD or arrows to move\r\nSpace to jump\r\nEnter to attack\r\n\r\nHelp all of these ancient technologies of the \"Council of Obsolete Technologies\" defeat the new tech taking over the world. \r\n\r\n-----------------------------------------------------------\r\n\r\nWhere did this come from?\r\n\r\nCore Developers:\r\nBrian Ploeckelman @PalpatinesSmile \r\nDoug Graham @dsgraham\r\nColin Kennedy\r\n\r\nOther Developers:\r\nIan McNamarra\r\nAlex Harding\r\n\r\nSounds:\r\nLuke Bain\r\n\r\nArt:\r\nTroy Sullivan\r\n\r\nMade proudly using LibGDX: http:\/\/libgdx.badlogicgames.com\r\n\r\n","title":"COOT - Council of Obsolete Technologies"}
