The Truth About The Pyramids by little-burrito

Story:

As we all know, the pyramids were built by Aliens. What most people don't know is that the pyramids are actually spaceships that were used to conquer the earth! Let's rewind 5000 years into the past and re-experience the moment of us overcoming their attack in the thrilling, photo realistic sci-fi shooter!

================================

Goals:

You are the mage defending against the pyramid. Don't die.
If all the people die, you lose.
Kill the pyramid to win.

================================

Controls:

WASD - Move
Left mouse button - Press to place a magical rocket - hold down to charge - release to fire. If the rocket doesn't hit the pyramid it will fall back to earth and explode, so watch out!
Right mouse button - Hold down the right mouse button and make a circle with the mouse to create a shield. The shield will be created when you let go of the mouse button. The bigger the shield, the shorter it will last.

Comments (feel free to skip this part):

Personally I think this has much lower quality than my other LD entries. I was planning to only work on it for 6 hours, so my ambition level was very low. I did it all on my laptop while stationed in the sofa. It turned into double the time I had planned, and at least it turned out good enough to kill a bit of time for me. What I think personally it's missing the most (as in, it could obviously be improved in pretty much every single other aspect as well :) ) is stuff like intros, outros, health meters and other indicatiors. And sound of course. The idea was for the pyramid to crash and take the position it's in today when you kill it. Anyway, pay attention to the pyramid just wreaking havoc on the world if you do nothing. That's probably what turned out the best. If you scare the people that start outside the houses they will also act a bit more naturally, they're less static after that.

The truth about the Pyramids. I'm too tired to explain anything - I'll be back for that! :)

I had very little time this time around, but I squeezed something in :)

Great setting and idea, good implementation! A bit hard to play on touchpad, but still engaging. Main thing what I was missing – sound effects, especially screams :)
Good job!

Solid effort here. Difficult to play on the laptop as Garfeild said, but good job.

@Garfeild and @Jonpul I completely agree! I made everything from the sofa with laptop, and I was just dreaming of how great it would be to play it with a mouse like I intended :) I'm considering porting it Android as well.
And yeah, the missing sound was pretty funny. I was thinking of the sounds, making sound effects with my mouth all the time while playing, but I had the laptop on really low volume and just completely forgot that computer programs can also play sounds :D

Trying to hit the pyramid with the rocket was just too luck-based. I like the idea though, and the rocket having a 3D perspective was a nice touch. I was just unsure if i was making any progress or not. A health bar would have done wonders. Instead I just watched the cool-ass pyramid just massacre an entire village. Of course while I unleashed massive rockets of dead upon them :) THEY'RE DEAD! . So I liked my personal version of the game where you work with the pyramid to destroy an entire village better, but I did come back and beat the game. But the pyramid just continues to attack the people even though it says I won! :(

@AODQ Hahaha! Do you want to know a little secret? That's exactly how I play the game too. I started out by making the people panicking and the explosions, then some houses to protect them, and then the pyramid. Then I just had so much fun with making the pyramid tear apart the city that only when there was half an hour left I thought "Oh shit, I need to make the mage so you can defeat this guy!" :) I actually never intended the mage attack mechanics to be like this, but rather that you would use the wind to throw pieces of the fallen city (and people) at the pyramid, and earth quakes to get you more stuff to throw. The wind would follow your mouse movement, and I think it could have been a cool mechanic. But man do I love just tearing everything apart :D

I like the idea, great work considering you worked on it from a sofa :D The shield mechanic is really great, however, the shooting could be done a bit better, I haven't felt like having control of the rockets much. The perspective here is really interesting :D You could certainly make something great out of this concept.
