Pixel Peon by jojocanard

[raw]
made by jojocanard for LD31 (COMPO)
Made with haxe/openfl + flashdevelop
Photoshop and flash for the images
BoscaCeoil for the "music"
sfxr for the sound effects
-------------------------
Some nodes are color nodes and the others are shape nodes (the greyed ones). Go to the shapes first and then the color to create a "pixel".

All the pixels have to be delivered at the top of the screen.

I'm free ^^.
Take me two games to understand how to get out ^^.
Haven't tried to get out before round 3 and I've quit when I've been killed by the pixel.
Nice game.
It would be great if the pixel we make somehow affect the game.
Something like : we start in a small screen and if we do a specific set of pixel, the screen grows.

This is actually rather great. At first I felt like it was going to be tedious, but then I realized what was going on: interesting player physics+waitress-style mechanics+"screen" theme = very nice job!

excellent entry!
great tutorializing, though the difficulty curve did spike very quickly.
really cool node system, brilliant game idea

The gameplay is kinda innovative but a little bit repetitive (the music as well ^_^)
Nice AI, though.

I escaped! One of my stream viewers worked out how to get the 'ending', I presume otherwise the game goes on forever?

This whole quietly embedded 'ending' (trying not to spoil anything for others) is my favourite part of the game. I think you were quite brave to be so implicit about it and never really explicitly expose it. It's risky because I think without it the game isn't nearly as interesting, and many players may miss it, but I think you handled it the right way.

The game itself is a neat little idea, I like the concept, the narrative, etc. It's simple, but it's everything it needs to be. There's a neat thought excercise in efficiency when deciding where and when to move but it felt generally quite easy to not be too inefficient which made solving stuff not feel as satisfying as it perhaps could have been. The difficulty reaches a point where I feel like the game is just deciding it's time for you to lose rather than it feeling like I'm performing badly. It's hard to explain.

I think the controls and player movement have some room for refinement, I can see how the slow acceleration would play into the theme of planning your movement but I feel it generally worsens the feel of play.

Overall though I think it's very cool, thank you for making it!

Thanks all for the comments.
I am very happy that some people found the ending. I didn't want it to be obvious even if the game is not varied enough to be interesting for more than a few minutes. Tuning a time management game is way harder than I thought !

Haha pvtroswold, it is true that it looks like a phone but this is a drawing of my own PC as a dominating IA. Mouhahaha

Nice work, and good take on the theme. I like games where you build and paint pixels :)

Nice user of the theme. I found it pretty hard and took me a while to figure exactly what was needed. Overall good entry!

Nice game! Smart mechanics and ending. Just found the audio a bit annoying in the long term.

Wasn't a fan of the music, but the gameplay was solid and rather addictive :P

Great concept, but found it difficult to play due to some very distressing music and floaty controls. A lighter theme and control system where I felt more in control would put focus back on your interesting core mechanics.

Cool idea. It would be cool to see the progression to be visibly seen some how. The idea is really cool though. Nice work.

Nice idea, maybe the execution has to be simple. It's very annoying to moving your character on the lines.
The music is hilarious x)

Audio was slightly annoying; however!
I thought the concept was fantastic. Movement was slightly annoying at times, but the game itself was pretty great. It would beamazing if you could batch colours. (You have 3 shapes, collect 1 colour, colours them all)
Great job. :)
