Defend the Earth! by Aglavra

[raw]
made by Aglavra for LD31 (COMPO)
== Note ==
My friend finished this game without using paddle (using only spacebar to direct the ball). So, if using spacebar makes the game too easy for you, just imagine that those aliens stole your paddle and take it as additional challenge! ^_^

=== Objective ==
Use the ball to destroy the defenses of alien spaceship and protect the Earth from invasion.

Do not let the ball touch ground, because it will lose energy. If you are out of energy, you are defeated.

=== Controls ===
Start game - SPACE.
Move the paddle: LEFT and RIGHT.
SPACE can be used to slightly change the direction of the ball, but be careful, as it will make it also fly faster.

=== Tools ===
Graphics: Gimp
Programming: Stencyl
Music: Music Maker Jam
Sound Effects: Bfxr

The source file can be opened with Stencyl. You can also rename it to .zip and open as usual archive.

Cute aesthetics to this game :) great idea to have health for this kind of game in a ludumdare context - most people would probably be too frustrated if they got game over too quickly and not try the game properly.

Good job, but you should probably disable space-bar after the first shot :)

Great job! Funny game.
But yea, "feature" with active space-bar looks like a cheat.

At first I was confused by the ball often being stuck in horizontal movement. After I re-read the instructions and noticed that you can push the ball with space, I made it through. After that it was a fun and quick game! Thank you for including a livebar :)

The music is great, and it looks good too, but the gameplay is let down by the "cheat" with the ball. Damn shame, because otherwise this could have been a cracking breakout game.

Nice breakout game. The spacebar is more an exploit rather than a control, but the feeling of the game is great thanks to the sounds and graphics!

Very cool, good work.

I love using the space bar for the game physics, that idea is definitely a good one that could be built upon.

Nice! The bounce physics needs to be adjusted to maximize Y-velocity though, as often I'd find myself waiting ages for the ball to travel up the screen.

Good breakout! Nice art! The ball sometimes got stuck making horizontal lines as the angle was almost 0. Loved the music.

nice mood, fits the theme. ball physics feel a bit off and improbable, especially when the ball hits the edges of the paddle. appreciate the energy bar in this case! :)

The game can basically be won by strategic spacebar use, and it would be nice to have a "press space to start" on the intro screen.

Really cool art style, I really dig the aesthetic. I liked the music as well! The ball was a bit confusing to control using space but great entry overall

Nice breakout clone, though the "spacebar" mechanic can be exploited to make the game super easy. It'd be cool if mechanics changed from one stage to the next.

Cute graphics, and also nice twist on the classical :). Congratulations!

I died because I kept speeding up the ball faster than my paddle could go :) it was fun!

I actually really enjoyed the space bar mechanic a lot, I think it brings something new to the breakout table. Sure it needs tweaking (maybe it should have limited uses or a recharge time? ), but I had fun with it!

Nice game=) At first, game ball start to jump between two sides of screen horizontally - this is where active space helped much)

I won! The game is simple, but well done ^^
Nice adaptation of the gameplay with a background story.
