Survive by Javabot

[raw]
made by Javabot for LD31 (JAM)
Build turrets, add grass to make things pretty, and put down wood to ensure a zombie won't spawn in that area. When ready, place the final block (which attracts monsters) and begin. I developed this all on my own, so have mercy.

Cute game - little confusing at first.

+points for it all being in JS :)

Really well done and interesting idea! For the given time frame, I would be really proud of this.

honnestly the concept is great. You can do something really interesting and different than usual TD .
Maybe pretty hard to equilibrate
I have more fun on this than a lot of game more polished game of this LD

But the realisation is ....
Just collision box for button will be a must

I enjoyed it once I was able to figure out just how to place blocks and where I was supposed to be defending. Definitely fun, but needs a little work on conveying ideas

The controls were a bit confusing (I believe the click is a bit glitchy).

When the game started, it was fun to see everything happen so fast. I wished I could build more blocks while the game runs!

Lastly, there seems to be a bug where the game doesn't stop once you got hit by a monster. Eventually, I got endless popups telling me that I had survived a bit longer :D

Good job for doing all of that on your own :)

Put grass to make things pretty. Ahahahahahaha! Who doesn't want to spend 5 hours in something useless instead of putting some lava?
Anyway, this is pretty nice!

The controls for placing things are a bit iffy, I found myself placing a lot of things where I had not meant to. An undo button would be really nice to remedy this. Furthermore, descriptions of what utility all the blocks serve would be nice. (As tooltips, maybe?)

Once the final block is placed the game works perfectly well, but it seems a bad idea to rob the player of all agency at that point. You should probably give them something more to do than just "watch it go". I have no suggestions for what that might be though.

Sorry if I've been too critical. I enjoyed the game and it's a damn sight better than my first entry. (I know you were in that Mini LD but this is your first "full LD").

Cute defense game. I liked the openness of the game, felt like sprite editor that turned your sprites into levels. Though, it would have been nice if there was a way to "undo" placed blocks. Also, I think some ambient music would have fit right in with the game-play.

Interesting design. I liked that you could make any geometry you wanted to, but the tile placement was difficult.

Popups bad! Hulk smash web browser! Once the game ended, I got an endless series of popups but fortunately Firefox let me nip that in the bud.

I like the idea, although to feel complete it needs some more dynamic behavior when play starts, things like chain reactions or unusual monster behaviors. Try adding some element of "chaos" (e.g. cellular automata rules) to make it playful without having to brute force a lot of designed content - it only takes a little bit to make everything much more interesting.

I survived 46 seconds! I ran into some glitches first when zombie spawned where I put the start block, but was interesting to see it play out with the structures I built. I think know what each block does would be helpful to know before hand and maybe some easier placement. good job!
