BEARPG by MaxguN
BEARPG is a mix between beat'em all and RPG.
You're a bearded stickman who is locked into a bar and is having a fight against two guys. But beware, if you beat them, there are two machines ready to revitalize them. They also, sometimes, duplicate them. So beware, the more you fight, the more you'll have ennemies.
When you defeat an ennemy, you will gain vital force and energy as well as experience to level up. Through levels, you'll be able to unlock new abilities.
Controls :
- Arrows | WASD | left stick to move
- ctrl | left click | A button to punch
- alt | right click | B button to kick
Made using :
- Unity
- Gimp
- Sourcetree for version control with git
Livestream replays :

The controls felt a little sticky to me, as a heads up I played with a control pad. That said, keeping it simple was smart and learning the controls was super quick.
The graphics are functional and work well with the humour of the game. Honestly though, you had me at 'BEARPG', simply amazing.
Concerning the controls, yeah, I'm a bit new to "platformer" controls in Unity and only used something I used for another game (and didn't prove really good either) but I didn't want to put too much time there.
@Pcholt : yeah, I didn't have time to balance the gameplay there, I too noticed it was easy to just score. In fact, the conveyors are supposed to go faster and I could have added a feature to make them change way so you can't focus only on one side. You can also use free super attacks by killing 3 or more ennemies.
Nice work!
I also wondered why the punch/kick cooldown was random since it made it way more difficult to plan your moves.
Good job!
I think there are a lot of ideas here that didn't get fully realized. For example, you play with two attack buttons but the attacks themselves don't appear to be different (other than the kick seems slightly longer ranged?) I had no reason to use a button other than the kick! I get the feeling the main reason for these two attacks instead of one was to allow for button combinations for your special attacks?
Your increasing strength over time works reasonably well, but the difficulty doesn't scale to match.
The controls for me felt very unresponsive, perhaps it was my machine's fault but sometimes attacks and movement simply weren't registered by my key presses, which is pretty essential in this sort of game. If you were to do more to this game I would work on this first and foremost and after that, I think there are some cool ideas that you could run with here but it would be good to pick perhaps just one of them, cut away on the others and make the game feel more focused and polished on one area. Perhaps the combat, perhaps the special attacks, perhaps the RPG element.
But either way, good stuff!
fun concept though, probably a cool idea would be an upgrade store
expecting the full version out on steam in 2 months, with a fully playable bear character
