Fort Deep Search by Wevel

[raw]
made by Wevel for LD36 (COMPO)
This game is a real time base building game where you have to manager workers needs and resources to build up a castle and dig deep to find an apparently enormously powerful artefact.

Left mouse to build rooms and parts of your castle
Right mouse to cancel building a room
If no building is selected you can mark tiles to be built to allow building new rooms
Middle mouse to move camera, scroll wheel to zoom
Hovering over a room and pressing 'x' will remove the room, this was mainly for testing but can still be used, and no resources will be returned

Workers will do their job, but require their needs to be taken care of. If they don't they will leave, breaking their room which will use resources to fix.

Build rooms to attract new workers depending on that room:
-Builders build new rooms and tiles as well as repair rooms from where workers have gone.
-Miners mine stone and metal to build with
-Foresters will produce wood and push back the forest to allow for more farms
-Farms produce food

Rooms can only be built if the background part of the castle has been build first.

The goal is to dig down to find a hidden artefact, upon which you will complete the game. Finding the artefact will require digging tunnels off the main stair case.

If a room which was built goes transparent, the worker has gone, this is either because you don't have any food, or because all the beds where being used.

If you manage to win, please mention it in your comment, will be interesting to see you gets the reference.

There have been some fixes made along with a display for what buttons are.
This doesn't completely fix the builders, and having multiple builders can still make all builder get stuck, but they are a bit better. I am going to continue working on this so at some point the AI will be slightly intelligent.

Made using:
-Unity
-Visual Studio
-Photoshop

Cant seem to stop my workers running away! Really nice art style and an enjoyable building w/ resources system. Some things such as what each building does are hard to understand and that maybe why my workers keep leaving... Very interesting gameplay, im determined to find out whats under the castle! Perhaps just some simple text that pops up when you hover over buttons telling you about the building and its resource costs wouldve been helpful. Other than that its fun game with an interesting goal!

Really cool art style and a great experience. Maybe use some tooltips for the different buttons, sometimes I did not know what button build which item.

Yeah, I like the concept, but the builders all seem to just go away. Maybe add a warning for a builder who is getting irritated.

Neat idea, although similar to the others I keep losing workers. Also I noticed my guys get stuck a few times. The art was solid and it definitely felt alive.

I love this kind of game but it was tough understanding what was happening - I have no idea what the buttons do. Maybe some tooltips would be useful.

I don't understand how this game works, I ended up building a room by chance, but couldn't replicate it, however the graphics are cute.

Enjoyable, but my poor builders kept getting stuck and I couldn't progress!

I like the idea, but needed some time to figure out what I was doing.

The idea definitely fits the theme. However, I feel like there needs to be some sort of tutorial.

The idea is very fun and interesting. But a in-game tutorial would be super great, because I am sure not I understand every thing happening in game. But if you can make a short YouTube tutorial it would be great to. I hope you would continue develop the game. WELL DONE.

I liked your game and I probably will just let it run in the background for a bit. A feature request though, please include a speed up button

Also could separate the fore- and background trees I was wondering why it was that I couldn't build any new farms and then I saw a tree disappearing

Neat game! I included it in my compilation video series of Ludum Dare 36 games, if you’d like to take a look :) https://youtu.be/VSGUm6oLKPM

Loved it.
Only drawback is the rather long late game where you just have to wait for your builders to get their work done.

Reminds me of Dwarf Fortress. Equally unfathomable, unfortunately :) Lots going on and looks very cute, but it's hard to find out how to control anything that's happening.

But once I figured out the arrows that appear when nothing is selected, I got a little bit of progress by extending my fort.

Then I told them to make the stairwell deeper, but it took the lazy bastards a long time to get started. I would have liked to assign more people to the task, or set priorities.

It's also not clear what all the things are for. When/why do I need Store Rooms, Food Halls, Builders?

Really nice game but it took me a long time to notice that expansion arrows you have to expose them more because that will stops players from playing your game. Also i have idea for project that need similar mechanic controls and that helped me to get firs timer experience so im very grateful :)
