The Christmas PudKing is intent on hampering you as you collect all the goodies for your Christmas hampers. So roam this ever-changing maze grabbing the essentials and avoid everything PudKing throws at you (holly, crackers, gold rings) or pelt them with snowballs instead. Can you survive all 12 days of Christmas?

Update (13/12/14): I've uploaded a new version which fixes the problem of getting stuck in the walls and the eratic key input.

Created in Processing. I used Pixelesque & Spriter for the graphics; and Caustic & bfxr for the audio.

I couldnt get it to run, unfortunately. Java just wouldnt open it. Might be a problem on my end.

The music is really good and and brings some christmas mood. Why did you chose x for moving down?

Cool music! Game is not too fun imo, hard to control, no purpose to move around the map with respawning food.

I found the controls challenging as you used 'x' instead of 's' for moving down.

Little wierd, but a good game, I didn't like the layout and game play. But is nice maze game, good job!

Although graphics is good, the laggy and inaccurate controls compromise the playability. Why you used X to move down?
Mutable map is a good idea!

Very frustrating and buggy. Movement lags, a wall spawned over me and I got stuck, shooting is completely pointless. Not fun to play at all :(

The music was quite nice and I liked the changing maze idea. The controls were a bit clunky for my taste. I wish the moving and shooting was smoother.

Final score was a poor 295. I got suck in the wall half way though, but still managed to win.

The music is definitively the strong point here. Not only was it a good song, it also matched will with both the theme of the game (the bells for holiday) and the strong base line for the tempo of the game.

The thing I didn't like was the controls. It looks like your implementation was relying on key down to move the player, so if you held down the keyboard button there was a delay until the auto key repeat kicked in. Next time I would suggest seeing if you can poll the keyboard to see if a key is down and not just pressed as it will make movement smoother.

Additionally, I see to making a note that you weren't able to stomp the bug that gets the player stuck in the wall before the deadline. You are allowed to correct game breaking bugs after the competition ends, and I would encourage you to do so.

Thanks for all the feedback. I chose X just out of habit, from when I used to play games on the old home computers back in the day. It looks like it wasn't a good choice though. I wouldn't say the shooting was pointless - it's another option against the barrage of holly, crackers and gold rings if you can't avoid them. Thanks for the useful tips dalbinblue - my most recent games were controlled via the mouse, so I haven't got to grips with the best way to check the keyboard. I'll give it a go. After playing it a bit for myself, I can see the comments are fair. I didn't really have time to road test it fully. Cheers all. :-)

Nice game, but it did't always get the commands.
The graphic is nice and the music well suited. Well done.

Rabbit & Luke Molnar - I had problems in the past running some Java programs. In Windows I solved it like this, but i'm not sure what the equivalent is for a Mac, Luke> http://compinfopro.com/java-is-not-recognized-as-an-internal-or-external-command-operable-program-or-batch-file/

I've updated the game now, so that you don't get stuck in the wall and the key input is better now.

Thanks for the comment Nikteddy92. :-)

I liked the concept, but it is very hard to control.

If you continue developing this, I suggest using the S key for down instead of X, since it is the usual default key of choice for down. Changing that key messes with people's expectation, and increases the entry level for the game.

But I hope what I said doesn't discourage you. Well done, keep up the good work!

Transition between days is a bit too quick, I didn't get what happend at first.
Some issues with control and collision (I go past a wall without understanding why).

Some work needed to finish it, hope you can make it post jam :)

Thanks for the feedback everyone. It's always useful. I managed to improve the wall collision, but haven't done much more with it. Hopefully I'll get a chance to finish it off.
