Wizards Are Bad by Lovelock

[raw]
made by Lovelock for LD31 (JAM)
Survive as long as you can.

An evil wizard will try to destroy your castle with his evil fireballs.

Keep your dwarves alive as long as you can. Chop down trees. Build a fortress. Don't get hit by fireballs.

Edit:

Thanks for all the awesome feedback. As with many jam games, there were plenty of features that didn't make it to the final build due to life, time constraints etc. I had planned on allowing stone wall upgrades for extra defense, better dwarf control / AI, and more variance with our wizard friend. Thanks for playing and trying to help our little dwarves survive.

Also, the music was originally going to be more playful, but the sad piano seemed to fit with how futile their little lives are. Dastardly wizard.

I really enjoyed this. I think it is a very nice concept. The first few times I played all of my guys were wiped out nearly instantly. I couldn't seem to directly control the guys so I couldn't get them to take shelter in the fort. Also when I chopped a tree down everyone stopped building to go and get wood and wouldn't start building again until all of the wood had been collected.

I hate that wizard... I hate him very much. Despite him and his behavior - nice game!

I liked this a lot, but I can't help but notice a lot of stuff missing, like proper instructions, and a working end screen. It was also unclear as to whether you could advance, or even if there was an end goal either than surviving as long as you can.

Good job overall.

Gosh I almost loved this game, if it wasn't for the aweful destruction that came randomly from the wizard... It seemed like any strategy that I put forth was either amazing or sucked depending purely upon luck: where do the fireballs hit... Great audio, lovely graphics. Tough controls, I wish we could control the dwarves a bit more so that they never pack and get destroyed in one shot.

Really liked the audio and graphics. Didn't feel I had much control over the game though.

Now I'm sad. The dwarves died and the piano kept sobbing with me... Good job with this :)

Quite cool and funny. But rather buggy and feels slow and futile after a little bit.

Nice game I had some fun.
The concept was simple, yet effective. It was quite fun, although I would suggest you make the workers default to building above gathering logs, unless there are no more logs. The music was quite good, but oddly somber for the frenetic nature of the game. Still, I had a lot of fun!

Very good game. Just need some balancing and difficulty curve for the dwarfs to not randomly die right at the start. The wizard should not shoot 1 million fireballs right in the beginning.

Nice game. Excellent music. Deserves to devote more time to make it a great game.

Man that wizard is a serious jerk. I almost finished building a giant middle finger to let him know how I felt, but you can probably guess what happened next. I liked this a lot, but didn't really feel the music was a good match. Far too much sad and not enough angry.
