PIXELTRON by GameDevExtreme

[raw]
made by GameDevExtreme for LD31 (JAM)
Viruses are attacking the pixels of your screen, since nobody likes dead pixels, you are in a quest to defend the pixels.
Build robots to defend your screen! the robots will fight the viruses and repair pixels. There are three types of robots: GunBot RepairBot and NormalBot, each have there strengths and weaknesses, so spend your money wisely.
Speaking about money, you can earn some by repairing the dead pixels, and spend it on robots.

This is the only game(I think) on ludum dare 31 that is actually physically ON one screen.

(The pixels are the tiles on the floor, dead pixels are the dark tiles and working pixels are white, the viruses are the purple blub, the ball with guns and a helmet, and the thing with the brain, by entering the shop, you can but robots to fight them)

WASD to walk, shift to sprint, and E to open shop menu.

Good theme based idea, and you are right no one likes dead pixels.

You need much more screenshots :D Funny idea... don't know what to do ;)

Aspect ratio is a bit too wide, I can barely see the screen on kongregate.

Other than that, really fun game!

Nice job but it has one of the strangest aspect ratios I've seen (at least on the web version)

I updated the game page, hope it makes it more understandable, and about the aspect ratio, its 960*600, whats weird about that? it's less wide then 1080p. thanks for playing:)

The web link to Kongregate doesn't seem to work, will try the windows version instead.

I wasn't completely sure what the purpose of the player was, since the robots seem to spawn in random places once purchased. Is the player supposed to be able to repair pixels themselves, or is that also a job exclusive to the robots?

I like your adaptation of the theme. But I'm entirely sure how to play the game. =(

Nice idea, I found the gameplay a bit confusing though - my repair bots never seemed to repair anything, and eventually all my gun bots died and I had no money left. That was probably just me being bad at it though!

Very fun gameplay, cool animations and good graphics. Maybe it needs a bit more of polishing, but great implementation of the theme, good work!

The idea of the game being physically on a screen is really good -- definitely on-target for theme. The music was also fantastic!

Though, after I played it for a few minutes, I wasn't quite sure if I was doing things correctly (or at all!) due to a lack of player feedback. :( There aren't any sound cues, or explosions, or visual things that let you know you're doing things correctly. You kinda just put down the robots and hope they do the right things.

Keep the base idea, though. :) It's a good one!

Great use of the theme !

After a minute or two, I earned so much money that I couldn't spend it all, and the game was becoming slow

by slow, do you mean low frame rate? or boring?

I hate this avatar which is embedded in unity. I would prefer instead a simple cube, but it's good enough ++

Couldn't really identify the strategy that is the "best". I just kept getting money and buying lots of bots. Interesting concept, but you probably should have opted out of the Graphics category since you are using a Unity third-person controller model that you did not create.

The mechanics work, but as others have mentioned, it'd be nice to have some feedback on whether everything is going well or not. Just a little bit of status information so you can guage what needs prioritization at the moment.

seemed broken to me. on first load the movement got stuck, so if i press forward it would forever walk forward. then on reload of the page, the entire floor was black.

Theme-wise you're spot on! Very original use of the theme indeed. The sound is crystal clear as well as the 3D scene. With regard to gameplay, I am less sure.
