Karusa by Princesseuh

made by Princesseuh for LD31 (COMPO)
At first I wanted to tell a cool story about a guy (a blue cube) murdering his girlfriend (a pink cube). But then I remembered that I'm not really good in story telling so I made this. The game tell you a little bit about that part. It might even relate to you :)

Karusa is a game about Smith. You might be wondering who is Smith.. Well Smith is a imaginary character I created to make the story progress. He's also the main character of the game!

Smith was at first just gonna watch a play but unfortunately the theater he is going to is.. Known to have problems setting up things and is also known to suffer from various budget cuts (No. This game is not about Nickelodeon)

Controls are pretty simple : Up to Jump, Left to move to the Left, Right to move to the Right. F1 allow you to see some debug information if you're interested in that

Hope you like it. Please keep in mind that I'm not really good at making games, it's been literally ten years since I last used Game Maker so it might be buggy and it's a pretty short game with probably the best scenario I ever created. Also English is not my native language sorry if there's any error in the text!

The graphics are very simple but still convey a nice moody feeling.

The graphics and overall mood were good, but there wasn't really a... goal to this. This felt more like an interactive movie than a game.

I think this game is a pretty good effort. One piece of advice that I would like to give you, and that is not even game related, don't go around saying you're bad at anything. Just make something, show it around, and let people give you feedback for what you do. You shouldn't worry about being good or bad. You should be worrying about making stuff, as much as you can, because you like it. And that way, you'll become better at what you do. I think this game would have been better without you worrying about being a good story teller. Then again, it made the game charming in its own way.

Good job, keep it up.

@alvarop Yes of course!

My goal with this game wasn't really to say 'Hey I'm bad in storytelling so I made this crappy game' as much as it was 'Hey I originally had a pretty cool idea but couldn't find a way to tell it correctly due to me being inexperienced in storytelling'

Still this is technically my first attempt at making a story-based game. I'm really more a 'make a base then make content' guy haha! All my current games (even the most popular one which is coming to Steam soon) are content-based game. I'll work on making better story for sure though.

Thanks for the feedback!

With some music it'd be even better! I liked the graphics. It was short, but good job! (I liked the rain effect)

@ChuiGum Thanks! Unfortunately I'm not really good at making musics! :(

I looked for a music generator or something like that but couldn't find any that suited my need. Too bad! I agree that it would have added to the ambiance.

Looks neat. A bit of music wouldn't hurt though, even just something auto generated. And maybe a few more screens to play through instead of just the one. :P
Good start though, and nice rain.
