Happy Hunting Ground by Will Edwards

[raw]
made by Will Edwards for LD36 (JAM)
Ride the Mammoth! Shoot all the Bison and Boar! And don't get eaten by the Sabre Toothed Tigers!

(WARNING! Very addictive on an iPad :) )

Made in under 10 hours using pure javascript and child labour! I put my kids to work and they loved tracing out sprites and play testing and coming up with ideas and stuff :)

Luckily I had a touchscreen on my PC. XD
The game is fun, but it isn't very polished.

I love this art style, but I can't hit anything for the life of me!

...Oh! I got one.

I'd love to play an Okami-style game with this art style-- less shooting, more just riding with the buffalo.

I love the art style, it feels like a fun game. I had a lot of trouble aiming on my browser with a mouse though and so died to the first Saber Tooth Tiger :(.

The art is great. The controls could use some work. It feels kind of slow.

I love the atmosphere and the design of your game (but the design of the arrow doesn't really fit with the rest, too basic I think). Even if at the beginning the arrow is quit hard to use, it's a really cool game to play!

The graphics are really fitting to the theme (if you don't count the red UI text). Somehow the low frame rate works just perfectly here! Nice work. :)

Great artists :) Cool art style.
I would like the shooting to be a little faster.

Darn it I did a similar style for my game but this is a much better idea! Nice work :)

Nice art! More feedback to the player would be nice, like sounds and particles. The game is really cool though, well done!

Cool concept. The levels keeps slowly changing making it interesting to keep going. Fitting ambiance as well!

Fun little game, nice art style, and I love how the animals float to animal heaven when you kill them haha

The graphics are generally great but the tiger is kinda small. I miss is every time

Good concept and the simplicity of the graphics are enhancing the feeling of old wall painting but the shooting needs some time to get used to.

I like the concept and the art.
And it's really not a easy job to shoot while your arrows are so slow.

Very cool take on the theme, I scored over 100000 haha. I think it was due to a bug where I can shoot multiple times at a target and get a much higher score, maybe that was intentional? Anyway cool game, I found this using the ludum dare map, tjenare mors :)

Nice! Simple and difficult! The art style is perfect, and cave art an interesting take on the theme, as is using your kids' art. I can't kill a sabre toothed tiger for the life of me!

Nice idea with cave art. I think you should develop your idea. If you increase speed of the game by several time - you will receive more exciting and fun game experience.

I really enjoyed the art style in this one. Plus, the slow moving arrows introduced a unique bit of strategy and difficulty to the gameplay. Good job!

Great aesthetic! A combo/accuracy bonus would be a nice addition as a way to discourage simply spamming arrows. Those tigers are worth a lot of points.

I got 288pt. I like the smooth curve a buffalo draws. Getting a long shot felt really good. It is pretty fun!

Most "ancient" feeling game I played so far, with very calming sound.

Never mind sound was from game in other tab sorry. Still a very zen experience.

I love the concept, and if the graphics and animations were more consistent and 'cave-like', this would be awesome! I found aiming very hard, as the arrows didn't go where my cursor was pointing at. But it was still enjoyable enough to play a couple of times. :) (Tell your kids they did a great job!)

Some cave-y music would be awesome, too, now that I think about it. I hope you're continuing work on this, I'd love to see what you can do with the concept.

I don't know if this behavior is intended, but it looks like I can shoot the animals more than once (the red score updates everytime I shoot them, even if they're already dead).

Fun little game. I liked the art style you chose for the game, reminiscent of the cave paintings at Lascaux and other places.

For some reason it seemed a lot easier to shoot at things on the top level than below, but it was fun either way. When you nail that far shot, it's pretty satisfying.

The sabertooth tiger is a nice addition, but it comes so infrequently and it's hard enough to notice that the game ends surprisingly. I'd recommend making it bigger and making more of them.

Overall, nice little game. Tell your kids they did a great job on the graphics, too!
