Ahab's Mystical Wagon Adventures by Franklin's Ghost

[raw]
made by Franklin's Ghost for LD36 (JAM)
Ahab's Mystical Wagon Adventures was my attempt at making a little adventure game, something that I've always wanted to try.

Had a lot less time then I'd expected this weekend to work on it and wasted a lot of time figuring out the movement and animation part of it, so the game is completely unfinished.

Don't expect much and you won't be disappointed. There's not much to do at the moment besides look at things and somewhat interact. But hey at least you can pat a donkey. All the actual gameplay is missing as I ran out of time and there's no audio at all. The theme I also didn't get time to properly explain, so that'll make no sense to most people either.

Also had trouble compiling a windows projector as flash kept throwing up errors so I'll try again tomorrow when I've had more sleep. Seems to work okay in browser fullscreen.

Better luck next time I guess.

UPDATE POST LUDUM DARE VERSION 2/09/16
-more animations + animations for moving up and down.
-scene tweaks.
-testing rock pickup add to inventory and throw.
-chapter intro that had missed adding.
-text tweaks.
-more I've forgotten about.

UPDATE 9/09/16
-more detailed object inspections.
-fade background when looking at objects as per local minimum's suggestion.
-tweaked wheel animations.
-close up of inside of wagon added.

Will keep working on it and updating till this scene is complete and there's actually a resolution.

Any questions feel free to ask me on twitter

Looks really nice and the animations are great. Shame you didn't have the time to add some game play but that's game jams isn't it!

The movements are really cool and in combination with the color palette make a really unique style. I'm a little sad there was no way I was going to touch the storm. If you consider working with this I think that the eye-inspection somewhat broke the expected style of the game. It might have been mostly on the horse there the sharp and non-outlined left and lower edges of the texture were visible. So just ensure with placement that they are hidden as a minimum. It would probably to good to dim out the world a bit too. Best would though perhaps be if the camera could zoom in on the detail instead while swapping the animation... but that might not be technically feasible?

Really lovely visual style, I hope you do a lot more with it. I enjoyed what little writing there was too. Definitely keep at it!

Holy crap the animations absolutely blew my mind from the start. Completely in awe of the style. Would love to see a full game from this.

The main character's animation looks like its rotoscoped. Super cool! I guess nothing really happens when it gets dark, but the darkening sky definitely made me tense. =)

I loved the animations. As Gassasin said, an horror game would be awesome. Your style is different and I think that that's is the spirit of LD.

The animations are incredibly fluid, looks like it was done through motion capture. The game was a bit glitchy like I would be petting the cart which was strange. I wish there was sound too. Interesting entry for sure and would love to see a fleshed out version.

The animation is very and art style is really beautiful. I love the yellow and magenta contrast and the colors in the background complement it really well. Most of the screen is taken up by a kind of ugly gray though. A better choice for the ground could have benefited the game but It's already really beautiful.

I came across a bug: after I pet the donkey everything I interacted with also gave the same text and animation as petting the donkey.

I'm not sure if this a bug or if it just wasn't implemented, but when I "picked up" the rock it was still on the ground. It would have been nice to have some sort of inventory system to see what I was carrying, but That probably would have taken up a lot of the development effort

Beautiful animations, must've taken a while! I'm personally not a big fan of point and click, but I liked this game a lot. Writing is good too!

Wow, now I get why all the previous commenters praise the animations. The visuals are incredibly well done.

Otherwise, there's not really much to comment on. It would be nice to see some more stuff made in this style. If this is going to be made into a complete game, I'd be glad to play it.

The animation is pretty cool. It seems quite promising. It is too bad that we cannot go far.

I hope you have learnt a lot of things during this LD and that you will make a wonderful game next time.
