Gorilla Rampage by bigdad1630

[raw]
made by bigdad1630 for LD31 (COMPO)
I began Gorilla Rampage with a vision of learning more about Construct 2D. At first, I thought it was really difficult, but as the jam went on, it got easier.

The goal in the game is to essentially just get a very high score. The more bananas you eat, the faster the game gets. Bananas and Tomatoes are ok to eat, don't eat the barrels. :P

Enjoy!

I love the art style, everything is very cute and blends well together. The gameplay could have been more researched but the theme is respected.

The only thing I would fix is that I used E to bring up the menu as a way to pause the game, bug my score was reseted to 0 after the menu was closed.

Good entry :)

Though it's a bit "done before," I like how you sped up the objects every now and then.

Wow, those barrels really start coming down fast!

This was simple but pretty effective and a nice use of the theme.

At the beginning I thought it pretty simple and casual. Then I saw powerups and stuff))

Monkey and bananas always work. Always. 11/10.

I enjoyed the art, but the game could have used some additional features. I would suggest implementing a lose condition before making a high score board. I'm not sure if it's a result of no lose condition, but the high score board didn't seem to work. You can go past the edge of the screen as well. Good idea for the theme overall though.

Good graphics. The gameplay is a little repetitive. Maybe more type of falling objects progressivelly added as the level go up might keep the interest.

I dig the speed up mechanic and lightning bolt movement power-up!
Almost imagining a super-mario invincibility style colors flashing and the music goes mental fast when you hit that.

That would be hilarious if you had a tropical style Reggae music and then it sped up super quick and sounded all high pitch! :D

If everything were animating and you had some crawling bug drops (enemies) or moving items period (rolling barrels) or something along those lines you could get into really interesting gameplay mechanics. A nice colorful start!

Nice little game!
Here's some feedback :
- We can get out of the screen from the right border.
(not from the left)
- It's hard to tell for how many time the bonus will stay. I've hit some barrels because the speed sudently changed...

I scored 438, but im going to play again to try and beat that score. Why? The interface is sweet (go monkey go). The gameplay is challenging but not impossible. And the powerups improve the game, making me hang out for them.
When it kicks into gear, it does feel like 'dodge the barrel, and not 'collect the fruit'. Also, the scoring and health systems seemed whack. I was trying to work out while i was playing though, and it is fast paced.
Thanks for the experience :)

The graphics in this are really cute. I can see lots of young kids playing this as it is really apPEELing to that age group.

The graphics could be awesome with animations; =/
Sunddenly the barrels get damn fast! The "lightning" boost makes the movement speed be a plus difficult!

Its like the gravity is suddenly changed after a while and things started falling much faster. Nice game though!

it's rough, but considering you're just learning and making a full game in 48h, it's not bad, it plays smoothly. Looking forward for your next competitions.

As other has said, it reminds me of the Pumba mini-gama of the Lion King (which I love).

I think gameplay could be better with some inertia for the main character and sfx.

Congratulations for finishing and for the cute art style

The graphism are pretty cool, but the monkey kick my eye ^^

But, this game is good, and it's very good to do that with a new engine for you.

It is pretty normal to speed up a game after a certain score... BUT when you take damage and lose score and it drops below 200, the game slows back down again FYI
also... Where do all the bananas and tomatoes keep coming from?!?! ;)

528, not bad. I think along with the speed increase of fruits and barrels, the monkey's speed should increase too. At the moment the game just keeps getting harder and harder until it becomes impossible to dodge anything. It would be better to just let the player manage with everything going ridiculously fast.

Nice work, loved the game play. Only suggestion: open the game with the controls scheme. It started but I had to stop it and go to the menu to see how to play. Very minor though, great effort and nice game!

Nice background art for 48 hours! What did you use to paint it?

A couple of suggestions for the game (besides sound effects or music):

1. You might change the monkey sprite to show a shield when it's active, so you know that it is up.

2. The shield seems to heal you after you take damage, instead of completely preventing damage.

3. Each time the menu is opened, the score resets. I'm not sure if the high score is saved either.

Hi there. Nice simple game. Maybe needs to change difficulty a bit, some lag spikes - generation phase, can you recycle things ? Shame no sounds. Good job though!

Very simple, stuck to the theme pretty explicitly. Animations would help out the visual appeal of this game a TON. Nice entry :)

I would have liked to have the highscore updating as I beat my old record, now I keep looking at the highscore because it has the biggest text. Still a nice implementation for a classic game!

I have seen this before. I'd like the monkey to make noises and jump rather than sliding sideways.
