The Temple of the Clockwork One by kardfogu

[raw]
made by kardfogu for LD36 (JAM)
Hello everyone, Kardfogú's here!

Holy crap, if I'm right this is my seventh time.
It was a solo jam again. I hope my friend under the flag of Creative Sectors manages to finish his game.

Gameplay tips: /* You'll really need them if you want to finish fast! */
- buy potions and milk
- if you find an item, read carefully what it does, if better than yours, equip it immediately
- save often
- save really often
- listen to what the non-player characters say, a lot of it is important
- this time the game is a bit less grindy
- there is a secret ending and I won't spoil that, it's stupid anyways X)

Let me continue with the special thanks:
- My grandma, becase she is the best and she fed during this 3 day and in general kept me alive. She is awesome.
- My senior for keeping the systems alive at my workplace while I developed this game.
- Morgoroth for giving me the idea of red-black maid clothing.
- Kittens all over the world, their awesomeness is an inspiration.

Sooo, let's continue with the introduction!

The latest+3 generation RPG, The Temple of the Clockwork One brings everyone the absolute best RPG experience ever. Released for windows and consoles so new they don't even exist, The Temple of the Clockwork One continues the Slashalot saga with an epic story to behold. Not like it matters.
/*Except, this time we actually have a story to begin with!*/

Play as Risha, the grumpy half-chimera half-gnome hunter!

Lastly, but not least importantly, I can't release a Ludum Dare project without its anti-features.
Anti-Features:
- Actual gameplay!
- Wondrous items of might and magic!
- Cute barmaid!
/* It's a returning tradition, I can't release an entry without badly written female characters, like you can't have a James Bond movie without proper ladies */
- There are no mythologically accurate - that is to say underdressed - female monsters this time, my apologies. We might later add that in a post-LD version.
- Really low quality sounds and music!
- Non-animated grass, because I was lazy this time!
- Not-so-linear gameplay!
- Secret ending you won't even bother finding!
- The base game includes lots of recolored enemies!
- Interesting glitches!*
*It is called a feature, that's why I mention it on the feature list.

After the release of Undertale, I find it hard to go back to the regular RPG fighting style, but with RPG Maker there isn't much you can do about that. Nice job with the character design though :p Also, the title screen says LD #35, if I'm not mistaken

Very funny game, I laughed a lot during the dialogs! :D

I've never used RPG maker before, so I don't know how much you did yourself and how much was provided by the engine. Anyway, quite a complex game with the item system und the different stats. The temple is quite extensive. Well done!

The fights are a bit boring, I just was hammering the return key untill a fight was over. However, it did remind me of when I was playing Pokemon as a kid. :D The damage numbers that pop up aren't very visible, if you don't look at the right spot at the right moment you can easily miss it. I also was never able to use the "Escape" feature during a fight.

I honestly never figured out how to beat Lichbanshee. I think I collected all the items and I tried different combinations of healing/damage, I still got killed each time after two hits.

Overall quite a fun little RPG, well done!

The difficulty jumps all over the place, which is unfortunate. The puzzle for unlocking the secret ending was pretty clever. (Though I'll admit I had to look at the assets to even know it was a thing.)

Visuals were good. So was the flavor text.

There were a few issues (coughgrindcough) but overall this was a pretty solid entry.
