Dock and Cover by LimeniusTeam

[raw]
made by LimeniusTeam for LD31 (JAM)
Dock and Cover is very simple: you have to dock your spacecraft to the station. You can also crash or get lost in space, if you prefer. But if you want to win, you mostly have to learn how to dock a spaceship sweet and fast. Of course, you'll really have to stare closely at your spacecraft screen if you don't want to die alone in the outer space. It's only you and her. Enjoy!

It was our first Ludum Dare and it was a blast.

Holy crap, level 3 was hard. Cool and inventive idea, loved the fingerprint on the lens. Good job!

Get's very hard after level 2! It is very fun though

You know what? I've never seen a docking simulator before. I threw on the music from that bit in Interstellar and had a blast with this. But holy hell it is hard. I think this game is waaay harder than you realise. Either that or you meant to make these crises *really* severe. I'd be interested in playing more docking simulators now.

I lost control on level 3, but this is a very good game idea. Well done!

This is great! Reminds me of LunarLander, LunarFlight and the like.

I really don't have anything I could nag about on this one.

Thanks for commenting on my game, Four Seasons!

Level 3 really spiked up the difficulty. Please good game developers, can we have a level 2.5 that has a slower moving space station? :D

@yokcos700: Wow, you got quite far! :D Take into account that there are only 10 levels, so yes, those crises are supposed to be severe. You were mastering it! ;)

Thank you everyone for the comments.

Fun. Controls seemed inconsistent though. For example the rotation controls took alot to do anything, while the translation controls gave you a relatively huge amount of velocity with one tap.

Like it! Is it inspired by Interstellar?

I remember interstellar the first time I see this

maybe you can give option to use WASD instead arrow keys

Thought it was easy enough once I discovered the strafe thrusters, but as soon as I came close to the station I freaked out with mad bursts and ruined it. Found it very hard to come to an almost stop. I got out of a few dead spins, but yeah, it is harder than the docking simulator at Kennedy! :)

Didn't succed to dock my spacecraft ...
Anyway the game looks cool and is fun to play, even if the controls are really hard to handle.
Nice job! :D

It took me a while to understand mechanics but it's a nice game. Sound is not bad and , the graphics are cool too and it's soothing if you get lost and so tense if you try to lock the base. So, good job.

Almost had level 3 but gave up when i was slightly at an off angle with no way to quickly correct it... You need some side-boosters that direct your ship laterally or vertically I think. Great job!

How many levels are there after the "REAL crisis"? Is it the last one?
I can't help but notice how similar this entire game is to that bit in Interstellar.

Forge: It is within the theme. You're watching the video feed from the front of a spaceship on a screen. Different spaceships, same screen (hence the fingerprint and such). Am I right?

@yokcos700: There are 10 levels, the "REAL crisis" is number 9. Number 10 is pretty much the same, but with less time. To be honest: we fixed a mistake we noticed in the physics in the last hours before the deadline, which made everything make more sense -according to the physics-, but also increased considerably the difficulty of levels 8 to 10. The timer in those levels had been tested quite a lot for the previous conditions, but should have been increased for the current -and right- ones. Damn real world. :)

And yes, of course, the whole game is inspired in that awesome scene of Interestellar, so we are very happy if it can give someone a bit of that feeling.

Regarding the theme... yes, your explanation is perfect -I mean, that was exactly our intention-, thank you for giving it.

We just wrote a post, with some hints, and two videos showing levels 3 and 8, for those of you who stopped at those levels. :)

Great concept, a ton of fun! I feel like the controls were just a little too sensitive though, felt hard to get any sort of precision out of it. But I really enjoyed in nonetheless!

I love the idea, but the game lacks a bit of realism. I know that it is impossible to make a simulation from scratch in 2 days, and that's why I likes to play the game

Really cool game here. Simple and fun. Instructions should stay longer on screen as I had to replay it 3 times to read all. Learning curve goes smooth trough levels although a bit too hard on later levels. I guess mouse controls would do better in this case.

Overall, good job

It gets pretty tricky once you start spinning, well done docking sim though!

18. Dec 2014 · 08:30 UTC
you must be a hell of a fast reader judging by how long those instructions stay on the screen!

I think it's good that it's hard. If it was easy it would be pointless. Love the gameplay. Really good fun.

Ver awesome concept! Reminds me of a certain scene from Interstellar...

Overall it was well done. I'd love to see some gamepad support or joystick support or maybe use the mouse to control movement amounts and use the keys elect which movement type to control...I say this just because the on/off of a keyboard button doesn't give much precision and control fully needed for this time of game.

Can't wait to see a post-Jam version!

First two dockings were easy, then suddenly it was all dimensional motion and I coulnd't deal with it at all. Challenge curve is really in need of adjustment. Also, it doesn't seem like this fits the theme very well, since the entire game isn't visible on the screen at one time.
