MES by RubiksJr
You had a nostalgia rush last night, so you decided to satisfy it by playing one of your favorite childhood games for the Mintendo Entertainment System, Attack of the Killer Robots. You popped in the cartridge and prepared for some rose-tinted fun when suddenly...
...nothing happened.
You turned off the MES, took out the cartridge, blew the dust out of it, put it back in, and turned on the MES. You found yourself playing the game, except you were inside of it!
Protect the MES! If it gets destroyed or you get killed, it's GAME OVER, literally.
Use the arrow keys to move, A to reload, D to shoot, and S to melee.
Version 1.1
- Fixed bug where big enemy doesn't move from spawn on right side
Tools used:
-Eclipse
-GIMP
-BFXR

The intro text was a bit hard to read (blue on black), though.
Fun game but I waited for nothing 2 times because the big block wasn't moving from the spawn point twice.
And I'm not sure about your reloading issue, I haven't had that issue my self and I haven't heard of other people having it. Sorry.
I think in the beginning was my MES invincible :D
Aesthetically game was okay, the pixel art was cool The player attacks and the enemies were cool as well. the only thing i could say is the color choices were a bit jarring to the eye.
The sounds effects were a nice touch.
Gameplay itself as stated before reloading was a bit strange as there was no clear indication if i was reloading or not or if i even needed to hit the reload button. shooting in general was outclassed by the heavily spammable melee attack.
I would have like the waves to come in faster or have more enemies, there was quite a bit of downtime where i wasn't doing anything.
Cool concept and good job!
Thanks for the comment! I actually used the original NES color palette for this game, so I can see how the colors were somewhat jarring. I basically just used certain colors because they had more shades, just like the original game devs.
And yes, at this point I definitely wish I had though of adding some sort of cooldown meter for the reload.
The grafics and the sound design are simple, but they fit perfectly. It would be amazing if you added some 8 bit music loop to pump you up.
Great Job!
