INVADERS LD31 by tomhunt
In the vein of a single-screen arcade game, I wrote a mashup of Space Invaders and Robotron, using voxels imported from sprites to use as the characters to create this pseudo-living-pixel effect - every pixel is a cube, held together by the life force of the sprite containing it :]
I didn't get nearly as far with it as I had wanted to, but I did manage to get it playable from start to point scoring to game over. I might work out various bugs and smooth out gameplay for a post compo version, if there's sufficient interest.
EDIT [12/10/2014 4:57pm PST] updated with a build fixing an issue with the shot collisions, making the enemies in the back actually kill the player on contact, and also fro the players shots to kill the enemies in the back. wee little bug that was kinda breaking the game..
Thanks for all the feedback and votes so far!
EDIT [12/13/14] uploaded a post-jam version to itch.io. fixed the dive-bombing bug (and added it back as a feature!), gave some of the invaders shooters, and spruced up the lighting a bit. thank you for the feedback and for making all these awesome games i'm going to go play now ^_^

You should try to modify the colors of the enemy, the game was a bit confused because of the lack of contrast

So yeah, the light is pretty poor (it took me a moment to spot the gun, that you had to pick up to shoot). But I like the idea of the living-pixel-effect; it makes a good effect when you blast the invaders to pieces :).

The voxel physics are fun to watch. Some more work on this, and you could have a fun title.

Hard to see and play. I would recommend at least having some instruction on the controls, I couldn't find any other player action other than moving (I expected a Space Invaders-like shoot action? None of the keys seemed to work for this.)

So yeah, as others have mentioned, the lack of lighting makes it hard to play. However, the exploding enemies is a nice touch. Good work on that!

This is a really well put together game, i liked how the enemies exploded into parts, even if it did push me out of screen, but it added to the whole space invader style game, made your entry a little different, i liked it :D great job

The voxel effect is cool, too bad it's too dark to fully enjoy it.
