Lost Path by louis.denizet
Lost Path is a narrative game in which you play a red panda forgotten by his family after a gun shot in the forest during winter.
You can move with arrow keys.
You can sprint with space.
You will have to face 4 main dangers :
- Cold is the main one, if you don't warm up often you will die freezing.
- Wolves will try to catch you.
- Wolf trap are really dangerous.
- Don't fall into the cold water.
The way we interpreted the theme (we weren't sure what the theme implicated!) was that when you go out of the screen you always come back to the same screen which one evolves with your progression.
Usually we make games really focused on gameplay and this time we tried to make a game around emotions and mood.
We used to work at 2 with my girlfriend but this time we had a sound designer and musician with us that really pulled us to work on the emotional and mood size of the game.
He has a sister with good english accent (we are french ^^) so he had to idea to put voices with text and that achieved the idea of narrative for kids!
Thanks a lot to both of them for this great time !
The sound designer has been particulary imaginative to create sounds, nearly each sound has a really fun story ;)
We really hope you enjoy the experience as much as we did!

However, it's just a minor amount of alteration that's necessary, I think, and then it would really be very nice. Thank you for the entry!

my suggestion is for the movement of the fox, which is a bit mechanical, if some day you return to this, try to make it more natural (rotating in the direction its going instead of facing immediately) :D
I see you guys found a good solutions to the theme this time, because I haven't seen many games which use the theme to create something unique. :)
You should check out our solution to the theme this time, you might like it.
@SoulGame on each screen you have to go on the path on the side to get back to the beginning ^^ and this is how we dealed with the theme : each time you go out of the screen somewhere, you come back at it the opposite side.
Half black screen increase this feeling we felt =)
Hope it answers! :D
@Grindstorm : about the half screen, it's really, to our eyes, the reason we are into the theme! ^^
We wondered about making a graphism for it like a page from a book but finally we decided to not to be more into the theme for us!
@Demy : We never said it was for kids even if it fits well ;) but remind that red hood and are much MUCH more violent and most of kids story of this time were like this ! ^^
The sound design and the graphics are so well put together, it's really cool. Nice scripting and level design.
The atmosphere is really well put together and the game design really revolves around the environnement with full coherence between everything :)
Story-driven game for 10-15min is exactly what needed for Ludum Dare. Short narrative expirience that brings something new in you.
Nice job.
I also appreciate that you have to figure out the game for yourself. I have to admit that it took me a while to figure out how to get around the first wolf but when I did it felt great. Telling the player what to do would have destroyed the atmosphere I think.
Since gameplay wasn't the focus in this project I won't criticise it, but there is one small thing I noticed: I think when you walk diagonally down-right, you cannot run using the Space bar. That really became a problem in the last screen :D
Anyway, this is a great and unique game. Great job!
Sadly I worked with a software I don't have mac/web exporters :/
We agree that gameplay is not perfect and we focused a lot on the mood aspect ;)
I also had a bug after a few screens (yeah, that also, the theme was "one screen" ^^") when the panda had only a split second to live, so I could not finish the game...
Also very good narration.
I Like it very much!
You made a really good work in every domain. :)
Keep up the good work!
