2048 Souls by Rosencatz

2048 meets Dark Souls, in pixel-arcade style.

Two of my favorite games combined. 2048 Souls is an arcade game where as you slay enemies their corpses obscure the arena. Same number'd enemies combine to create a new enemy worth more points. Can you defeat the 2048?

There are bugs and lots of stand-in assets, but it's playable and I have something to submit, yay!

Font: I used a free Souls-esque font from online, here: http://www.dafont.com/optimusprinceps.font

Edit:
Thanks for all the feedback! The concept is that enemies will get more difficult as they increase in number (zombie -> skeleton -> skeleton knight -> ghoul etc.). So I wanted the pace to slow down as you progress because you'll need more time and space to kill the harder mobs. Also their corpses will have special effects such as poison or a debuff aura, so as more corpses litter the arena the difficulty goes up.

Note about mobs not spawning: its a bug in my collision detection where if two objects intersect then both are stopped from moving, mobs are spawning offscreen and when two happen to spawn at intersecting locations then they get locked up off screen. I'm working on a fix. This is the same issue that's causing the player to get stuck on corpses.

Future plans include:
- better collision detection
- different mobs for each number with increasing difficulty
- special mob corpses, poison, debuff aura, enemy buff aura, + more
- better attack animation and timing
- better graphics
- item drops, different weapons, maybe armor, or spells
- leveling up (ie. spend 'score points' to increase stats)
- starting classes, knight, ranger, cleric, etc. would set starting weapon and stats
- better sounds and music

Though if the mobs stop coming thats a bug, they are spawning

Neat spin on 2048, would be cool to have them turn into different monster types when they merge.

Very clever to mix arcade gameplay with 2048 style-puzzle. This could be a huge hit if the enemies had variety! Great job coming up with something unique :)

Cool idea, but a bit too slow and enemies stopped coming after score 208.

Hi there. Like the idea. Found it too difficult once six or so enemies they, and the bodies, hem you in so you can't back off... get dead quick.

Neat. Good implementation. Nicely atmospheric too.

Awesome concept, I wish the numbers meant how much damage they take, and you randomly get lvl ups on the map to try and collect so you become you're own worst enemy as they get stronger!

Definitely keeping working on this a make a Post-Compo build!

Cool take on 2048. I like the graphics but the web version on the page was a bit small. Gameplay is pretty slow paced and it was annoying how I got surrounded and couldn't move past the dead bodies.

There was something very satisfying in the sound it makes when you flatten them to the floor. Cool concept. 533 was my score.

Cool art even if it's lacking animations. It has the potencial to become a nice game in a post-jam version.

Idea was nice. The game itself became quite repeating and boring after a while.

it's a good idea to merge the dead body, but otherwise the game is too easy, I blocked the space bar and kill mass without taking damage.

Actually, I didn't realize the game has a reference to 2048 until I got into the game for some while and wonder why some dead enemies merge into a new one... Nice innovation there!
