The Stickman Cometh by woz

[raw]
made by woz for LD31 (JAM)
UPDATE: Added web build! Unfortunately, HTML5 support in Unreal Engine 4 is still experimental, so a 64-bit browser is needed, and even then there may be issues. I was only able to get it to run using Firefox Nightly 64-bit: https://nightly.mozilla.org
The Windows version is still recommended. Blood particles are toned down a bit in the web build (no GPU particles), and there's no gamepad support.

Warning: The Stickman Cometh contains blood and violence, though it's mostly cartoonish.

The Stickman Cometh is a 2D Shooter. It has a silhouette type art style, with a Max Payne-like bullet time mechanic.

I really liked the game. It was really fun and I felt like neo when dodging bullets with focus on. Graphics were okay. I really liked the music; it really set the mood for the game. I just really loved the focus option; made the game really fun.

Good that you can re-spawn immediately and play endlessly :) Gore is nice!

Stickmen are nice!
Nice music, nice graphics!
The game is interesting, but it is very hard! I would consider adding barrels or walls or some place to hide.
I'd like to have a score counter as well.
Well done!

would be cool if there was more abilities to dodge fire, and bullets came at you at different heights.

Web version does not work on Windows (tried Firefox and Chrome, fails with 404 on some jsStorage.js file). Since the Windows version works fine, you might wanna just take down the Web link?

Anyway, cool bullet-time effect ;-) But why make such a game with the Unreal Engine? seems overkill to me.

Thanks for the comments everyone! I know there are some flaws as people pointed out, mostly because I ran out of time. I'm glad people like it though.

HTML5 support is still experimental in Unreal, and Firefox Nightly 64-bit is the only browser I found that it works on. It's mainly for Mac or Linux users, though I haven't actually tested it on either of those.

I used Unreal because I think it's an awesome toolset, even for a game like this. I probably could have made it using something else, but I think it would've taken longer to get the same result. I also wanted to play with Unreal's skeletal animation system, which is amazing. Not too mention I didn't write any code, I just used Unreal's visual scripting system, Blueprints, which is great for quick prototyping like this. (I am a programmer though, and I'd probably convert the scripts over to C++ if I made this into a full game)

Awesome game concept, good art and clear mechanism. The time slow effect is sooooooo cool, great job! Also enjoy the BGM a lot, give the game an epic feel (the alone hero? :D

I tried this on three different browsers, all 64 bit and I couldn't get it to work :(

This didn't load for me in Safari. It got stuck at the end of 'Downloading Data'.

The error console says:

Really reminds me of those old stickmen games. The graphics are mostly silhouettes but still very detailed, well done and very fun to play!

The sound and gameplay are very good. Kinda hard to avoid the bullets though.

Very nice stickman game. Unfortunately the web build did not work for me (downloading files with full progress bar), but the windos binary did fine.
