Breach 'N' Clear by Crawler Studios

[raw]
made by Crawler Studios for LD31 (COMPO)
Plot:

You play as a SWAT team member trapped in the middle of a heist. The Player [you] must take out criminals, and escape the buildings alive. Use your Riot Shield and Flash Grenades to get through, and get to the extraction point.

Controls:

[A] and [D] to move left and right

[W] to jump

[S] to throw a grenade

[SPACE] to punch/hit with shield

Features

- Walk over green cubes to get more health and grenades.

- Watch the time, and try to beat your best!

Bugs to note:

Please understand that this was made by a one-man-team in ~12 - 16 hours, so you might find a few more bugs than mentioned.

- No Sound on Resupply (don't worry, still works)

- Player looks forwards or backwards (just move left & right to fix)

- No high score (I know this isn't a bug, but it couldn't be implemented due to a glitch found during development. Might add it in later, might not)

How It Fits Ludum Dare 31's Theme (Entire Game On One Screen)

Obviously, themes are up to interpretation, so this is how I interpenetrated it. You see, there are three levels in the game, but all in/on the same scene/map. The camera does not change location's as well. Therefore, the entire game is played on 'one screen' which is the game camera. Hopefully that made sense.

I really wanted to be able to reflect enemy bullets with my shield! Pretty good platformer for a solo entry, anyway!

Jumping is weird, it should be possible to alter your direction when you're in mid-air. Level design is very basic.

Very nice music!

Decent job overall.

strange camera placement, made it harder to jump on platforms
grenades is weird choice of weapon here..

I agree that the camera angle probably isn't the best. I really liked the music!

I really like the camera angle. Makes me feel like a child using my imagination to interact with the object. Nice audio in background but the shield sound is off putting. Controls are a bit weird too, still for a solo entry it's pretty good!

I like your interpretation of the theme, I actually read it after I played and I got it. That's the cool part, sadly the controls are not great, very very annoying. I felt like the game need more polish. It's a great start though and I do see a ton of potential in it.

The controls were difficult to get used to. Interesting camera perspective swinging back and forth! It was amusing how the criminals would spin around when you got near.

Nice explanation of the theme :)

The controls were difficult: not very smooth, and if I jumped before running toward a platform I had no air control. I feel like this was probably your first time making a platformer? It's actually pretty difficult right? Also there were some collision issues, and I was confused about what indicated my health. Lastly, the music has potential, please keep learning about music :)

Good job on finishing LD31!

Hi there. Had problems with combat, things missed, couldn't aim. Music seemed a bit out-of-theme with the combat.Liked the camera angle and range to player... nice overview. Good job!
