Snow Day Tiles by Stipple3D by stipple

[raw]
made by stipple for LD31 (JAM)
This is a pattern filling game where you take pieces from your tray on the top right and fit them into the play area to fill the marked pattern with the specified color for that level.

You work your way through the levels in order but you keep your score as you go.

Bonuses are awarded for filling more than one pattern tile with a single piece. The bonuses are exponential (1 pattern filled is 100, 2 filled is 400, 3 is 900, etc).

You get a penalty for changing the color of a pattern tile that has already been turned to the target color (-200)

There are about 12-13 levels and then they repeat (adding another color to the mix). Then a third set, adding yet another color to each level.

I hope to do some testing and tweaking and do a post-jam version of this, so any comments and suggestions are greatly appreciated.

Enjoy :)

One of the best games I have played so far. Crisp graphics and easy to grasp game play. Great job!

I don't feel like there's much strategy to this. Either a tile fits or it doesn't. Other than that, good job!

Really interesting idea. Started out seeming too simple since you could simply place unneeded tiles around the pattern (and since you can "stack" them, you never run out of space) but things changed as early as level 2 :) I'd say it's worth making a post-LD version of this.

Only suggestion I can make is some more polish: Sound effects when placing tiles (especially when you place tiles correctly to give positive feedback), visual feedback when placing tiles, maybe show the player how much points their last move gave them directly on the grid so they won't have to look over at the score section.

But I assume you'd have implemented most of that already had there been more time :P

Nice concept. I like it. The only thing I don't really like is the sound effect... Good job!

I like the idea, but its a bit difficult for me. I think maybe allowing rotating the pattern could be more interesting. Keep up the good work

I agree with the first comment: simple and fun. I would have like more variety in the puzzle system, but it's jam i know :)

Well... This game logic is pretty starange to me. But, anyway, the game plays well. In this case I like it. ;)

Simple, but very fun. Not much to suggest as far as improvements. I can see this being made into a mobile game.
Well done!
