Weapon Against Oblivion by frnknstn

[raw]
made by frnknstn for LD32 (COMPO)
The people of the universe cried out in anguish. Their universe was dying, the cold god Oblivion had taken hold. As the last suns were dying out, and all heat was slowly being devoured, the people prayed for a WEAPON to fight back. They prayed to the one god they needed most, The eldest god, who they had almost forgotten.

When the sun rose the next day, it was with purpose. The sun god, incarnated is his most pure form, came to beat back Oblivion.

the sad truth is, your picture looks promising but you are requiring me to install stuff? ... did not run it but did not vote either to be fair

Having to install prereqs is kinda annoying.

Python / Pygame are shipped with almost every desktop Linux disto. For Windows users, I will try to get an all-in-one executable version up soon.

Ubuntu instructions:

sudo apt-get install git python-pygame
git clone https://bitbucket.org/frnknstn/ld32_an_unconventional_weapon.git
cd ld32_an_unconventional_weapon
python game.py

Despite the simple graphics, this game did a great job setting the mood with the story and audio. It's a lot more atmospheric than I expected from the screenshot. The gameplay is pretty simple and slow, and it doesn't seem like there's really any strategy. I played to about 1.9 million souls, but Oblivion had over 4 million so there didn't seem like much of a point anymore.

The spinning movement controls feel fantastic. The audio really sets a cool mood, too. I think the moment to moment gameplay could use more variety, but this is a really cool game as it. Nice job!

Very nice game, loved the audio and visuals. Might be nice to have the sun to change colors as it ages, and perhaps some more audio feedback for in-game events. Overall great job!

Without music this game would have been bad. But the music brings you into the right mood.
