Works great on OSX, by the way. Love the cheeky "Exit to DOS" giving it that extra retro oomph. Awesome job in such a short timeframe. If you keep working on it, I would consider ways to make the game easier for the many players who are terrible at it, like myself and many commenters here apparently. Beyond making the hit threshold larger, it might help to have the notes come at the player vertically instead of horizontally, so the horizontal keyboard layout maps directly to the notes (currently I have to sort of flip the controls 90 degrees in my head, which makes the game that much harder). Nice work, I really enjoyed this!"}],"images":["ld32\/3099-d3514acbd17bc4f81c5ab2f97115f40b.jpg"],"links":[{"url":"http:\/\/veralin.dk\/ld32\/drums_of_the_dead_win32.zip","text":"Windows"},{"url":"http:\/\/veralin.dk\/ld32\/drums-of-the-dead-macosx.zip","text":"OS\/X"},{"url":"https:\/\/github.com\/sqaxomonophonen\/ld32-drums-of-the-dead","text":"Linux & Source"},{"url":"http:\/\/youtu.be\/z4BfOZ50lAk","text":"Timelapse"}],"metadata":{"g_key":"12683","g_author":"3099","g_event":"LD32","g_eventkey":"27","g_subevent":"COMPO","g_urlkey":"12713","g_title":"Drums of the Dead","g_status":"UCHK1","g_place":"182","g_commentcount":"33","g_site2_node_id":"0","g_hide":"N","g_has_icon":"Y","g_rqueue":"0","g_random":"0"},"nds":[],"node":null,"orig_images":["http:\/\/ludumdare.com\/compo\/wp-content\/compo2\/\/444368\/3099-shot0-1429491401.jpg-eq-900-500.jpg"],"text":"Play the drums right or the zombies will eat you! It's a guitar-hero-esque game.\r\n\r\nYou can configure drum keys by highlighting the drum in the menu and typing letters. You can assign multiple keys to each drum; it's an advantage when playing fast notes. With the default keys I find it best to keep fingers on X (kick), C (snare), M (hihat) and comma (open hihat), and use the adjacent keys when appropriate (if you're on QWERTY that is). Start a new game and play around with the keys to get the hang of it, then start a new game again to try it out \"for real\".\r\n\r\nTry raise\/lower the audio buffer length. Lower is better if your system can handle it.\r\n\r\nThe \"scoring\" is a bit sketchy, the game punishes you much more for playing the wrong drum than for playing inaccurate or the wrong number of notes.\r\n\r\nThere's only one \"level\". Try completing the game with only you and the bass player!\r\n\r\nWritten in C using SDL2. Instruments used: Ibanez SDgr, Fender Jazzmaster (and there's a little ebow, wheeeouuu). Tools used: Toontrack DFH Superior (drums), Renoise (drum editing), Apple Logic & Native Instruments Guitar Rig (bass\/guitar), Audacity (sound editing), grafx2 (graphics), vim (editor). I used Renoise because its XML save format made it really easy to export drum data to the game. Thanks to Sean Barrett for the stb libraries (https:\/\/github.com\/nothings\/stb).
